Gear shift solenoid or transmission problem?

When I put it into reverse, it wouldn't move, like it' was in neutral. Took it to a repair shop and they put in a new transmission. But 1 week later, I had the same problem. So does this mean I bought a new ****** when the problem was a gear shift solenoid problem? Do you have to take the ****** apart to replace a gear shift solenoid? I paid 4K for nothing!!!

SOURCE: Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: Repeated Broken Flex Plate in Transmission

1997 Honda Passport 4wd
Make sure you have the correct factory Honda starter in your car , if its an aftermarket starter they may have replaced with cheapo starter, sometime the teeth that engauge starter to your flexplate will not mesh properly, because there different, causing the flex plate to fail. I had the same problem. I went thru 2 before I found this out..Hope this helps.
Please rember to rate me on my help. Thankyou!

SOURCE: rebuilding 1995 honda civic transmission

Did you make sure that the tork converter was all the way forward first if not then you will need to take the transmission back out and make sure that the converter has either automatic trany fluid in it or 184/85 gear oil depending on whether or not you have automatic trasmission or manual fill it up until you can put your finger in it and then rotate converter clock wise and it should slip into place before putting trasmission back into car and if after doing that and you still are having trouble take it to a transmission shop to have them do it for you.

2005 GMC Envoy XL 4WD is stuck in neutral. How do l get it unstuck?

Q1: REVERSE IS DEAD TOO?>
no VIN told or if transmission is automatic. or manual
no engine told of 3 and tranny size matches engine power
4L60-e transmission is on 5.0L gm engine.
I think most Envoy are A/T boxes. USA, shows this .
PRNDL. Reverse. Drive and Low fail? say those words
is east,.
the transmission needs service, vast problems possible
they are complex.

causes, top:(SCAN THE PCM IS WISE SEE IF IT SEES A HUGE PROBLEM THERE.) BUT REVERSE DEAD IS A VERY BAD SIGN. SCAN THE PCM FOR SOLENOID ERRORS!
  1. ATF oil leaked out of box and now dry, diP stick it? ATF smells burnt or looks like TAG is bad news. or metal flakes in the ATF DRIPPED TO A SHEET OF PAPER.
  2. fuses blown but most time reverse still works.!!!
  3. transmission shift linkage failed. (the service manual covers the steps to check that, Read the SM?)
  4. transmission shift solenoids bad. (reverse? has none)
  5. transmission is bad. (means removal time)
NOW IF REVERSE FAILS
ALL THESE THINGS HAPPEN TO ATTAIN IT.
you asked so here is a complex answer, (not all)
AND LOTS MORE TO FAIL.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire. Transmission is going out I think. When I put it into reverse it's sometimes goes into reverse and sometimes doesn't but I hear a loud knock. fluid is right and not...

putting it into a gear and hearing a knock indicates that the engine mounts or transmission mounts are broken
naturally if you put it in neutral it will not move as that what neutral is
perhaps the neutral position needs adjusting as it may still be in drive
have the fault codes read to determine any sensor/servo/solenoid faults before spending big money on a transmission

1st and 3rd gear only sounds like a broken sun shell he should feel bad... The only real issue on those 96 97 transmissions is the solenoid resistance values so swap ur solenoids with the one u want to put in and it will work fine if u do ur home work first.. U got to know why they wont work thats how u find cheats... But first and third sounds like a stripped or sheared shell...was reverse gone to

I changed the gear box of my 2007 corolla about 5 months ago. Then I noticed the car jerks or kind of pushes forward whenever i change my gear from park/neutral to drive or reverse. Please what do you...

A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission. If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox. If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping. Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine.

Need diagram for 1995 subaru legacy automatic transmission. 176K , Reverse went out about 10 months ago but all other gears shift fine. Have driven from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe 4/5 times with no...

It's a bad solenoid. Reverse and low gears work off the same set of clutches. If you have first gears , then its a solenoid problem. I would first start by pulling plugs, transmission, TCM and everything in between. Check for corrosion, Use an ohm meter and check the wires for continuity. On some models the safety neutral switch/ range selector switch has a lot to do with how the transmission shifts. If the tcm can't read the switch it wont send power to the solenoid. so far I haven't found a place that will sell just solenoids. You have to buy the whole package. These start at about $200.00

My 92 Ford Taurus has had shifting probs for about 5yrs, but recently it wouldn't catch any gear to move forward, and severely "bucked" in reverse. Mechanic says it might be speed sensor,...

Some speed sensors will help the transmission know when to switch gears, but with some of the things you describe, sounds like after driving it that long, damage to the transmission has occured. Also, it could be a bad torque converter. There is also something called the transmission torque converter clutch solenoid, causes the car to buck and cut off. Hope this helps, any questions just contact me.

Sounds like the cable has shifted, from the gear lever to the transmission there is a cable that puts the transmission in the correct gear. this cable is adjustable where it bolts onto the transmission and has probably moved

1991 Caprice No reverse. Moves in neutral. All forward gears OK.

What engine? Rear wheel drive ?Sounds like shift linkage or cable out of adjustment slightly. Have a look at where cable or rod attaches to transmission for adjustment. If not sure of what your looking for get back to me with info.
