1991 Jeep Cherokee stalls, dies while running idling will restart

Hi, I have an 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L that will sputter and die while idling and running. The fuel pump was checked and pressure was fine. Battery connections were replaced. Engine will restart after dying sometimes it takes several attempts at re-ignition. While in the process of sputtering and dying if you give it gas it acts as if it is not receiving fuel. Could it be the fuel relay? Where is the relay located? Thank You for any advice given.

I have the same problem, almost acts as if its flooded. Yesterday it was really cold and it wouldn't start, It would turn over but acted like it was flooded. Tryed starter fluid. Didn't work. We let it sit another day and this morning, boom it fired right up! But as I was driving to work, it died again at a stop light....waited a few minutes and tryed starting it and it fired up again and was drivable???? What would cause this intermitant starting problem??

I have a 1991 jeep wrangler with a new fuel pump and relay.

Check spark and fuel pressure. One is failing and must determine which to proceed further.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls when brakes are applied

My 2000 Grand Cherokee had the same problem, without all the sputtering, it would just die approaching a stop. We could only keep it running by slightly pushing down on the gas petal when coming to a stop. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, but that didn't change anything. A new mechanic I found replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and we've had no problems in a week.

Jeep stalls

I had the same problem... frustrating.

I picked up a repair manual at the parts store. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner spray. I changed the Idle Air Control Valve (idle speed motor) which was very clogged. While I had the throttle body off I also changed the Map Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. The manual will walk you through the steps. I had never done anything like this before. If I can do you so can you.
My Jeep has never run better. Good Luck
