Could be a torque converter issue.

Sounds like you might have a major vacuum leak, now does you truck have a power brake booster or is it hydraulic system. If booster you have an eternal leak a bad one. Now on idle, hand brake on, if you set it in nuetral does it idle nice now when you put in gear like drive does it start missing like it wants to die if so you have a bad brake booster. There are a few possibility on this one. If you run it out of gas or really low on gas you could of sucked junk up from the bottom of the tank and you will need to replace your fuel filter. Another is that your fuel pump us going bad and you would need to check the pressure. Your throttle position sensor may have gone bad. Your idle control valve is another. Your map sensor or mas sensor could be bad

Kind of sounds to me like you have an o2 sensor problem.

Is it an Automatic trans? how quick does it die after putting in gear? Is there any black smoke from exhaust?

There are two other sensors that may be causing problems. One being the crank position sensor and the other being the Oxygen sensors.

Porbably not getting enough gas or dirty. My 88 dodge caravan did that too until I put a cheap fuel-injector cleaner in with the gas, and started giving it more gas even in lower gears driving around town. Worth a try...

you might have a bad torque converter lockup switch

Sounds like a fuel issue. If it only does it when it's cold try putting some heet in your tank?
