I've read article after article on Chrysler forums where anything other than Autopar ATF in their transmissions cause problems, erratic shifting, etc, including what your experiencing. The techs that deal with it daily through Chrysler/Dodge shops, say there is some properties or chemicals in Autopar fluid, that others just don't have, no matter what they say, and they have proven it, time after time, with symptoms that disappear, just by changing fluids to Autopar. My wife's relatives own one of the more respected & trusted repair shops in our area, and they swear by that rule too, because they've also experienced it in the past. I'm naturally assuming you know that your experienced enough to know how to install filter properly & what to watch for, so with that said, I hate to say it, but Mopar ATF4 is the one & only fluid for best results. P.S. I recently had my transmission with 260,000km. replaced at Ontario Reman, whom back when I was with Chrysler, was the sole supplier of rebuilt engines & transmissions for Chrysler. When I questioned them on the fluid in my new/rebuild they responded with same answer, Mopar ATF and nothing else. If you do some googling on it, you'll find many that went to quick lube or similar for same service only to experience shifting problems etc after. Switched back to autopar as advised & problems went away. Can't say 100% that's your problem, but if it were me, I'd change it.

haven't noticed if maybe upshift is delayed have you, As in higher than normal RPM before shifting to next gear ? Might be time for a quick scan to be on the safe side. I'm told autozone does it for free.

MY 2006 JETTA 1.9L TDI, WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A LIGHT WHEN I START TO GO THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT IN TO 2 OR 3 GEAR ABD BLACK SMOKE COMES OUT ON THE TAIL PIPE AND THEN IS RATCHES, IF YOU STEP...

the black smoke is because your gear is stuck in first and you are reving the eng. it looks like your trans, filter is blocked and the oil is cantiminated, remove trans oil pan, change oil, filter and gasket.

Tranny shifting hard in and out of gears

This transmission is electronicly shifted by the computer (transmission control module) First thing i'd recomend is changing the trans. fluid & filter ( depending on what engine you have the trans may not have a serviceable filter ) Change the fluid and add 1 bottle of LUCAS trans.treatment = 1 QT.

Hard time shifting, bubbles in oil, trans not

noy sure about the hard time sifting but sounds like a vacum hose some from trans to engine may have a split in it which causes long gear change or none at all, oil brown and stinky change it its too old you should change your oil every 10 thousand

Change fuel filter. Check for vacuum leaks. Not sure if your's still had a modulator. If it did, change it, check the vacuum.

My 2001 dodge caravan isn't shifting into overdrive.. and is hard to shift from park to drive and to reverse. any ideas?

The transmission is probably shot. the only other thing could be dirty linkage if you mean "hard" as in hard to move the shift lever. The first thing I would do is get a tranny fluid and filter change.

When trans shifts into overdrive it shifts at high rpms?

No not likely. Is the 3-4 shift rough? What speed are you going when it shifts into 4th? It likely just needs the T.V. cable adjusted.

Transmission Not Going into Overdrive

First check and make sure the fluid is full. The most likely cause is a failed solenoid pack. Circuit codes normally mean something electrical not mechanical has failed. The solenoid pack is on the outside of trans pretty easy to replace.
