Gas Gauge not reading correctly

Filled up tank, drove away and gauge still read almost empty. 2 days later, driven 10 miles, and now reads 1/4 filled, when I know it is close to a full tank.

The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.

I had a very similar problem when the car was still under warranty. The dealer knew immediately the condition, so my guess is there may be a TSB on the problem. My EVAP cannister was bad and caused my guage to not read correctly; after filling, the guage would not move until I drove 20-40 miles, and then the guage would slowly show the tank was filling. The opposite would occur also; the guage would show the tank with more gas than what I actually had. After they replaced the cannister the guage worked great again.

The gas gauge on my 2001 Nissan Altima shows full when filled up, but only tets to 1/2 full when it is near empty. Suggestions?

Either the fuel tank sender in the tank is bad and needs replacement, or the fuel gauge is faulty. I would bet the one in the tank is probably bad, because that's usually the case. Find the connection at the fuel tank, disconnect it and use a VOM to get a resistance reading while the tank is empty and reading 1/2. It should match the specs.

I have a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica with 63,000 miles. It was a 1 owner (prior to me) & was well take care of with regular maintenance. The gas gauge will Not go above the 1/2 mark when filled completely full....

I do not own a pacifica but I do know quite a bit about cars and the digital read out gets in info from the gas gauge. so if the gas gauge is incorrect so will be the read out. I would start at the sending unit for the fuel gauge I bet you will find your problem there. The sending unit is most likely located in the gas tank

Why does my 2002 SC430 gas gauge needle not work when tank is full?

The sending unit in gas tank is broken - hence the wrong readings of how much gas is in the tank. Replace unit.

We just got a 1988 Porsche and filled with 1/2 tank, there was what seemed like overflow happening - Any idea what may be the problem.

fuel tank vent could be blocked by mud/pebbles etc, not letting the gas fumes escape while your adding fuel making it overflow, check underneath the car near the fuel tank .. something to start with..
