    thanks, will do.

Since posting question and receiving answer ("see the dealer"), I read this fix on a Nissan forum: turn on ignition switch (don't start engine) and when airbag symbol first blinks, turn off ignition for 5 seconds; back on, wait for first blink; off for 5 seconds; back on, wait for first blink; off for 5 seconds; done. This proceedure worked for me!

First, turn on your car (ON key position) and your airbag light stays on for 7 seconds, then starts flashing every half second. (.5 seconds on, .5 seconds off, repeat)
This means either your airbag is malfunctioning, or it malfunctioned in the past. We'll find out exactly what happened in a second.

If your airbag light is on solid the whole time, either your airbag has deployed, the computer thinks its deployed, or your sensor or wire harness is broken. You're going to need a professional to fix this.

If your light never comes on at all, your METER fuse might be blown, or you might have a wiring fault in an airbag circuit. Go directly to Infiniti and have a professional fix this.

OK, so your light is flashing like I explained before. Next, we're going to enter DIAGNOSIS mode. This mode will tell you exactly what’s wrong with your airbag (according to the computer at least) It's a bit tricky, but read carefully.

1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. After “AIR BAG” warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, [i.e. when it stops running solid and starts flashing] turn ignition switch “OFF” within 1 second. [DO NOT SWITCH IT TO LOCK, SWITCH IT TO ACC]
3. Wait more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 two times. (Perform 3 times in total.)
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
SRS is now in Diagnosis mode.

Try it a few times. If you can't get it to work, have someone else try. If you STILL can't get it to work, check your battery voltage. It might be low.

In diagnosis mode, you're going to hope the light flashes slowly. 2 seconds off, 3 seconds on, and repeats. If your light does this, this means that the computer detected a previous error that hasn't been erased. This is good.

If you get ANY OTHER result, go directly to Infiniti. You've got a real problem that needs a real fix.

Now, to erase the error from memory.

5. If “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates as [as I said before], turn ignition switch “OFF” to reset from Diagnosis mode
to User mode and to erase the memory of the malfunction.

6. Turn ignition switch “ON”. “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates in
User mode. [it should stay on for 7 seconds, then go off, like normal.]

Hope this helps you.

Thank you Randy Dix! This actually worked. Turned out to be a malfunction in the system. I didn't have to go and spend money for someone to fix it. Thanks again Randy!

Needs to be taken into the dealer and reset the module. This is a safety feature that basically tells the oem if the system has been tampered with. Sorry for the bad news.

I have a 2009 Nissan versa and it has blinking airbag seatbelt sign on crust reader how do I get rid of that

theres a fault in part of your SRS (airbag) system that includes airbags, seatbelt retractors and pretensioners. You need to have your vehicle read with a obd2 reader/scan tool which will tell you what DTC (diagnostic trouble code) is being set. That will let you know what device is triggering the fault and what the fault is. Usually autozone or auto shop will read the code for free to get you headed in the right direction.

97 nissan maxima switch doesnt work on 1,2,3 but work on number 4 only. what is wrong and how can i fix the problem. how can i r&r the climate control panel. thank your

problem is usually the resistor, but switch may be going bad too. The resistor is next to the blower motor, above the passenger's feet. You may have to take the glove box out to get to it. See picture below. Also, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6234839-doesn_t_heater_or_air_conditioner_blow for additional diagnostic info. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, Climate Control Panel
                        1. Remove the center console trim fascia.
                        2. Remove the radio to allow access to reach behind the control panel.
                        3. Remove the control panel attaching screws.
                        4. Remove the center console bracket, if necessary, to allow for easier removal.
                        5. Separate the control panel from the trim panel.
                        6. Unplug the harness connectors and vacuum lines from the control panel.

                        To install:
                        1. Plug in the harness connectors and vacuum lines from the control panel.
                        2. Install the control panel into the trim panel.
                        3. Install the center console bracket, if removed.
                        4. Install the control panel attaching screws. Do not overtighten them, as they are screwed into plastic.
                        5. Install the radio.
                        6. Install the center console trim fascia.
                        7. Operate the climate controls and check for proper operation.

For 2009 Nissan Versa SL: Need to Disable Dashboard Lights

There may be a seperate fuse for that feature. The thing to try is find the fuse box. It is generally under the left hand side of the dash on thedriverside butthey have been known in some vehicles to be on the right hand side under the dash and even inside the glove compartment. There are some models that setup the fuse box under the hood as well. If you have an operating manual with your vehicle then the fuse box will be located in there.
Once you find the fuse box then try thist rick.
Locate instrument panel fuse. In this case there should be two with instrument panel listed but if not then it may be all in one fuse. What I woulddo is just turn thekey on so the lights you want off are shinning on so you can see them. Then one by one pull a fuse. If thelight stays on then replace the fuse back in the same spot you took it out of, Continue doing this one fuse at a time and replacing it back in the same spot until the dash lights go out. Then see what the fuse box says about that certain fuse and what all it operates. It may be that you can not disable the dash lights this way without disabling something else you need such as a blinker or heater or radio, but what I am hoping is it has its own seperate fuse. If you arenot sure what it operates by what it says onthe fuse box then once the fuse is out start the car and check all of your other lights including brake lights and blinkers and of course thedash lights that work when your head lights are on. Check all of yourother switch operated devices like the radio and windsheild wipers and heater. Anything that has a switch you can test. Remeber that you may have pulled the fuse that operates the dashlights but there still may be another fuse that operates the dashlights you want disabled, so if the fuse you puilled disabled stuff youneed then replace thefuse and keep pulling more until the dashlights go out again or you run out of fuses to pull. Remeber to turn the headlights back off while you arepulling more fuses. I hope this was helpful, Raz

                      Airbag light blinking--not deployed

The light indicates a fault in the airbag system - a problem that potentially could prevent the bags from deploying in a collision. The system needs to be checked out by your Nissan dealer or a mechanic equipped to diagnose/repair airbag problems.

I have found that this usually the sdm (the main module for the air bag system). Really needs to go to the dealer.

From the 2009-2010 Maxima Service Manual that can be obtained here. I think Promanuals.net is the only place that has the 2009-2010 full service manual as of now.

                      REMOVAL
                      1. Disengage the filter cover tab (1) by pushing up and pull out to
                      remove the filter cover.
                      2. Remove the in-cabin microfilter from the blower unit by using the

Air bag light blinks then syays on

If you mean the passenger airbag light no longer lights up and airbag light on the dash blinks at start-up and then stays on; the read the below and check this site:

                      www.automotivehelper.com

I went to radio shack cost me $2.99 for 3 bulb packet. But the post below worked. It really didn't that long, pretty easy job. Took longer to find the tools. The first guys idea/fix, the second guy gave pretty good instructions. Just a little more detail: (3) the clips are one each side of the panel; (5) these two screws are on the inside lower part of module, (6) unclip the plastic tabs from the back (where the plug end is) first and it should lift up easily.

                      -------------
I had this happen on my 98 Ranger.(code 27) My light on the module that turns off the passenger side airbag was burnt out. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 12v light with wires attached and soldered them to the existing light.(didn't even take it out!) It fixed it!! Cost, about $1.50 and 20 minutes of fix time.

Note: If the light by the key switch to turn off the passenger side airbag does not work, it disables the entire airbag system! Hope yours is as easy to fix.

                      ----------

                      gerg,

Thanks for your post. I have no way to read codes, but I heard the five tone alarm every time I started the vehicle and the passenger air bag off light did not light up. I was skeptical, but tried your advice and it worked.

                      Parts:
                      1) 12-volt colored lamp (Radio Shack part: 272-1099)

                      Tools:
                      1) socket set
                      2) philips head screw driver
                      3) soldering iron

                      Procedure:
                      1) remove ash tray from console panel
                      2) using a socket set, remove 4 hex head screws from console panel
                      3) pull console panel out of the two clips
                      4) remove connector from air bag key module in console panel and take console panel to a work bench
                      5) remove 2 philips head screws to remove the airbag key module
                      6) carefully unclip the plastic tabs that hold the airbag key module case together
                      7) remove connector circuit board from air bag key module
                      8) solder the yellow replacement lamp to the two solder pads for the original lamp on the back side of the circuit board (which wire to which pad does not matter)
                      9) tie the replacement lamp in place next to the original lamp
                      10) replace the circuit board in the airbag key module and snap the case back together
                      11) connect the airbag key module in the truck and start the engine to check that the lamp illuminates and that the alarm does not sound
                      12) screw the aribag key module back into the console panel
                      13) snap the console panel back into the truck
                      14) replace the 4 hex head screws
                      15) replace the ash tray
