Engine hesitating & stuttering very badly, it's barely driveable. code p1336

Engine hesitating & stuttering very badly, it's barely driveable. Truck was fine, gased up last night....was near empty...this morning stuttering, gagging, began. could it be clogged fuel filter, bad gas, water in fuel? After 5 minutes of running like this, it had gotten me to work, now engine light is on code shows p1336.....could it be a false trigger if fuel or junk from the bottom of the tank was pulled into the line? Thanks!!

Thanks Peter, I was hoping fuel, but it has 205k on it so cam sensors haven't been done yet. I was guessing same, but wanted to be sure.thanks Chris

Always resolve code related issues first, then continue on if necessary Codes don't mean a sensor failed necessarily

True, that's why I was thinking possibly junk in fuel at first

SOURCE: idles high when warm

With the age of the vehical it might be a good idea to do a compression test first. I would check the timing. Sounds like the engine is advancing for some reason, if that checks out then recheck for vacuum leaks( it could be leaking past the base gasket, vacuum booster, or intake), The vehicle has a carb. not a throttle body injection? Also if you can retrieve that engine code it may be helpful.

SOURCE: engine cough

you have a missfire in one or more of the cyclinders. Could be cause by faulty coil when hot or as you mentioned a wire or plug. But if it runs well any other time I would say it a coil when gets hot

SOURCE: Rough/Hesitating Acceloration

Hi,

Yes it does sound like a fueling issue, but could also be vacuum sensor or airflow sensor.

If you haven't replaced the fuel filter in 3 years, then it may be about time you did. It is also one of the least expencive parts, and even a DIY job if access is possible, but you have to depressurise the fuel line before changing.

You can test the output of the fuel pump through the filter with a little care and a short length of pipe into a fuel can. It can as you say be a faulty fuel pump - but you will only know by testing it.

on your last tune up you might have gotten some bad plugs i know they are new but sometimes they dont work straight out of the factory and your fuel guage connections are backwards

Chevy express 1999 didn't start, i have a code p1336. i've change the crank shaft sensor but it didn't strat and i have a P1336 code again

Trouble Code: P1336

CKP Sensor System Variation Not Learned
Possible Causes:

Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels for safety. Verify the hood is closed. Read the trouble codes. If a code is set, refer to that code. Start the engine. Allow engine temperature to reach at least 158?F (70?C). Then key off. Select Crankshaft Position Variation Learn procedure on Scan Tool & start the vehicle. Apply the brake pedal firmly and verify the selector is in Park. Increase accelerator pedal position until fuel cutoff is reached at the test rpm (e.g., 5150). Quickly release the accelerator pedal after fuel cutoff is reached. The CKP system variation compensating values are learned when the engine speed (rpm) decreases back to idle speed and the procedure terminates. Read the trouble codes and recheck for DTC P1336. If DTC P1336 runs and passes, the CKP system variation "learn" procedure is complete. If not, look for other codes. If no codes are set, repeat the test procedure.

How resolve a P1336 DTC on a 2005 Ford Freestar

Do you have code P1336 and poor driveability (ie misfires, surging like the trans is drpopping in and out of overdrive). if so you may need to relearn the pcm?
Did you by any chance change the plugs and wires, did you also replace the coil? Also, did you bump or pull the connector for the camshaft postion sensor? Could be it's just coincodence and the sensor just went. Not 100% sure, but I beleive that the cam sensor is used in a sequential fuel injection system to tell the ECU when to turn on an individual fuel injector. If the ECU doesn't detect a signal from the cam sensor, it will default to a batch fire mode, where all 3 injectors on either side of the engine will fire simultaneously causing misfires?
If you can't reprogram the ecu replace the camshaft sensor.
