Whenever putting gas into my car, it acts as though it is flooding & doesn't want to start. I sometimes pat the accelerater and it then starts. However, after it finally starts then it starts up fine every time after until the very next time I put gas in it. It does the same thing each time I refill the tank with gas. When the gas pump first stops do you try topping off the tank ? You should stop filling when pump stops ,your flooding the Evaporative emission canister .

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

If it is a 2.2 Auto it has a VT25E Trans,A really bad experiment from G.M.There is no dipstick.The only way to check it per service is to remove the center part of the main drain plug while running in park,if fluid drains or trickles out they say it's full.You probally have other Issues inside the trans.Check your mileage they have a special coverage period for this Trans through Saturn Dealer!! They May cover it or do a partial coverage for you.Hope this helps

the BCM (body control module) is a problem on these cars it works one day and not the next,also controls the lights, security, door locks, etc this computer is usually very expensive and dealers charge around $800 the replace and reprogram it.
