Check to make sure the fuel pump is working. On the fuel rail there is a test port that you can connect a mechanical gage too. Also there is a fuel cut out switch under the dash closer to the floor that has a reset button on it. If you hit a very hard bump it can trigger the cut out switch. It is designed so that upon impact in a collision it cuts the fuel supply to the engine to prevent an engine fire from leaking fuel. Sometimes these switches go bad, But, try the reset first and be sure to check that the fuel pump is working.

You will need to get some kind of ignition system first. I would recommend getting an MSD. It will come with wiring instructions, and it will be all you need to run the motor.
SOURCE: engine stalls when put in gear
when An engine stalls while driving . like when you place the gear on mostly on drive. The fuel pump has a problem and need a checking .you can do to take it to the dealer for repair or just do it by your self to save time .Prepare the tools or equipment in servicing the fuel pump.So that fuel pump will operate properly.Locate the fuel pump.Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump.remove the fuel pump from the engine.Dis-assemble the fuel pump.Check diaphram for defects.Replace defective parts.Assemble and install the fuel pump. After checking the fuel pump then adjust the Idle into high until the car can when put into gear.If the owner can't do it then he is advice to go to the dealer or to the car shop mechanic to let them do the job.
SOURCE: check engine code-P1340 just had work done on
If the codes were on before the work was done then the shop never cleared the codes. If after the work was done the codes came on then could have a plug undone or a vaccume line off
Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
