Blower works. Air is directed correctly to dash and floor. When defrost is selected, blower runs at all speeds but no air flow at the defrost vent. Heat works well too. New thermostat recently installed. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Lymand. I think you're probably right. I reduced fan speed to lowest setting - then switch from panel to defrost mode - waited 5 seconds and then cranked up the blower. When I did this, I got airflow in defrost. If I switch from panel to defrost without reducing the fan speed, I get no airflow in defrost so your vacuum idea makes sense. I wonder if it's a line issue or a switch. Any way to tell? Do you happen to know where these are located? Thanks.

There is actually two blend door actuator that control the opening and closing of your vents. Ine is located under the drivers side dash board. The is on the passengers side. Both are electric and I didnt have the money to replace them so i removed them and turned it with a pliers to allow heat to come out of bothe sides of the vent. Then come summer flip the little bar back the other way to A/C Hope this helps God blessss
I the short answer is yes. The truck has a flow-thru vent feature as does most GM products. When the fan switch is off the outside air would flow into the truck. I thought you could still direct the air by way of the control panel, but by the wiring diagram it looks like everything is disabled when the fan switch is in the off position.
Hey man if the blower is working and air is coming from your other vents i have a few ideas.First i would start by checking your vent selection switch something may be stuck where the dash vents open. If the selector is fine you should try checking the ducting behind the dash it could have come apart or simply be cloged where it routes air to your dash. hope that is helpfull.
This is a common problem on this site. In your case I would look for a vac leak or a sticky blend door. Since the direction of air flow changes when you are accelerating, I'm going to guess the blend door or doors are controlled by engine vacuum. There may be a vac leak between the dash and the engine, or the blend door may not be able to move back and forth correctly. Defrost is the default position when a problem occurs, to make sure the windshield is clear of fog or frost.
The blend door in the heater box itself is what directs the air to where it needs to go as per selector switch. The heater box is located under the dash.
