NO POWER OR GROUND TO IGNITION COIL

THE ENGINE TURNS OVER BUT FUEL PUMP DOESN'T RUN AND THERE IS NO POWER OR GROUND TO IGNITION COIL.

  • hapgood410 Jan 11, 2009

it has no spark to the plugs, but it has no power or ground to the ignition coil and the fuel pump won't run but it turns over fine.

Where is the fuel pump relay and how can e serviced?

Description

*: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
The ECM activates the fuel pump for several seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON to improve engine start ability. If the ECM receives a engine speed signal from the camshaft position sensor (PHASE), it knows that the engine is rotating, and causes the pump to operate. If the engine speed signal is not received when the ignition switch is ON, the engine stalls. The ECM stops pump operation and prevents battery discharging, thereby improving safety. The ECM does not directly drive the fuel pump. It controls the ON/OFF fuel pump relay, which in turn controls the fuel pump.

Component Function Check
1.CHECK FUEL PUMP FUNCTION

1989 chevys10blazer won't start turns over but won't start one mechanic said it jumped time another one said ignition. Coil or distributor cap put gas in carburetor but it still didn't start

Pull off a spark plug wire and ground it over the engine. Crank the engine over and see if there is any spark from the wire. Sounds as if there is no spark to light the fuel you are putting in the carb. If no spark, possible ignition module/pick up coil inside the distributor/defective distributor cap/rotor/ignition coil/ wiring

Does the fuel pump relay work the ignition power to the fuel pump i have no power to the fuel pump when ignition is on but power when cranking the engine over

Most cars are designed to only put power to the pump for a few seconds till the rpms reach a certain point so it doesn't keep pumping if engine stops. If you have power while cranking and you didn't have someone turn key on and watch test light right away you could have not noticed having power with key on and you probably have a bad pump. Also did you check to see if you had good ground in plug also? I would say if you have power and ground at plug pump is bad.

Engine won't start

Sounds like an AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN (ASD) RELAY problem. Fairly common on the Caravan.
Heres a brief overview of the ASD.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay by switching the ground path on and off.
The ASD relay supplies battery voltage to the fuel injectors, electronic ignition coil and the heating elements in the oxygen sensors.
The PCM controls the relay by switching the ground path for the solenoid side of the relay on and off. The PCM turns the ground path off when the ignition switch is in the Off position unless the 02 Heater Monitor test is being run. Refer to On-Board Diagnostics. When the ignition switch is in the On or Crank position, the PCM monitors the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor signals to determine engine speed and ignition timing (coil dwell). If the PCM does not receive the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor signals when the ignition switch is in the Run position, it will de-energize the ASD relay.
The ASD relay is located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC). The PDC is located on the driver's side inner fender well Power Distribution Center . A label on the underside of the PDC cover identifies the relays and fuses in the PDC
Check for good ground.
Good luck...i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.
