Camshaft Position Sensor

I have a 94 Volks Jetta with the check engine light on.. It turned out to be the Camshft Position Sensor. I called the Volks Dealer and they told me that the sensor was built-in the DISTRIBUTOR ($350). Does anyone know how to do an easy fix without spending a lot of money? I was thinking Junk-yard.!! What are your suggestions?

Where is that crank position sensor on a 94 Pontiac Bonneville located

Solution: The camshaft sensor works according to the principle. It scans the ring gear on the camshaft. The rotation of the ring gear changes the Hall voltage of the Hall IC on the sensor head. This change in voltage is transmitted to the control unit and rated there to establish the required data.

Crankshaft Sensor: If we look at the crankshaft, we can see that it has a full power magnet next to it. This magnet continuously radiates a constant magnetic field. As the engine starts and the crankshaft rotates, the steel pin surrounding the shaft rotates around this area. This causes the field to fluctuate, creating an AC signal. This further signals the engine operating unit to sense rotational speed. Instead, the EMU is able to calculate camshaft position and speed to further optimize fuel injection and ignition.

Camshaft position sensor determination failed:

*Vehicles don't run like they used to. If your vehicle is moderately sluggish, stalls frequently, loses engine power, vibrates frequently, reduces fuel consumption or accelerates slowly - this is a camshaft condition. There are signs of sensor failure.

* Check engine light on

*The vehicle will not start.

Diagnose crankshaft position sensor failure:

* Problems starting the vehicle. The most common symptom associated with a damaged or malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor is difficulty starting the vehicle.

*Non-stop

94 galant crankshaft position sensor

If I recall correctly, the '94 2.4L does not have a crankshaft sensor. The timing is handled by
a) correct alignment of the timing belt; and
b) the camshaft sensor on the end of the engine, above the gearbox.

I have no experience of the V6 models.

2007 Toyota Camry ,camshaft sensor change out.Is there a requirement for any caliberation

No re-calibration is needed. If the sensor was bad, just replacing it will fix the problem. Takes a coder reader to turn off the light. Or after so many key on's the light will go out.

Passing smog

code p 1340 refers to crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor signals out of sequence
the results of the pretest smog test at 2400 rpm suggest that the cam advance solenoid or system is failing
that will alter the sequence of the signals resulting in the code and failing of the smog test
as to answer you question , I am not convinced at this point but I consider the cam advance system to be at fault and would be testing in that area

Passing smog

I doubt it as you have stated that it shows a calibration fault . This will be from the variable valve timing assembly on the cam shaft/s that is altering the valve timing. The timing chain may be faulty but you should be hearing it to be that bad.

- Starting system circuit
- Dead (Weak) battery Tech notes Sometimes and in some models, low battery voltage or a weak starter can can trigger a Camshaft Position Sensor code.
When is the code detected? The camshaft position sensor signal is not detected by the Engine Control Module(ECM) during the first few seconds of engine crankingSymptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- Engine StallP0340 Description The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.

Looking to find camshft sensor on 2002 land rover any help. I would be so thankfull.

On an overhead camshaft engine, look for the camshaft sensor near the end of the camshaft pulley area on the left or right side of the engine.

Camshaft Position Sensor Operation:00158_camshaft_position_sensor.jpgA magnetic or hall effect sensor. It sends a signal to the computer relaying information about shaft speed, position and acceleration or deceleration. This information determines when the fuel/air mixture needs to be ignited and how much mixture is needed for the engine.

How do I change a speedometer transmitter on a 2001 volks wagen jetta gls

The item you are looking into is call Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

It's on the body of the transmission.

With engine off and key out

Pull the sensor cap off and replace the sensor.

Make sure the connector are tight otherwise dirt and corrosion will damage the contact.

Where is the cam shaft sensor in a 1996 jetta?

1996 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L SFI 4cyl
The Camshaft Position Sensor is located under hood, center, upper engine area, driver side of engine block, mounted in distributor.

This sensor performs the same function as a crankshaft position sensor; providing a signal to the ECM regarding the position of the crankshaft.

Although the camshaft position sensor is an essential input for the ECM to determine ignition timing, information on testing the sensor is located in of this guide (autozone.com / free register).

Hope help you; remember rated this help. Good luck.
