A more likely problem is a blown oil gasket somewhere
its possible for the filter to cause it but not as likely as a gasket leaking
do u notice any oil spots where u park??

Oo.com my 2004 ford crown victoria oil gauge goes from high to low and then stay under the low when i checked the oil it had plenty but it sounds like my motor is tapping please help!!!!!!!!!!!

You may need to change the oil filter; if it has become clogged, there will be such a pressure drop across it that the rest of the engine does not receive proper lubrication and the gauge reads low despite the presence of oil. Keep in mind that this gauge reads the oil pressure, not the oil level.
You may also have an issue with the oil pump itself, but the first thing to do is change the oil and filter. Often times, having this done at one of those jiffy lube places or something like that, they will change the oil but not the filter because they are lazy and figure you won't notice the difference.
Good Luck!

What would cause a drop in oil pressure without any visible leak

the pressure bypass valve in the oil pump leaking by and not closing completely to make the pump build full pressure,or the pump is working and the sending unit is giving you a false reading, then you should have a mechanic put on a gauge to see actual pressure of the pump, don't wait cause if pressure is actually that low you will sustain engine damage soon

My oil pressure gauge keeps going up and down. What can I do to fix this?

drop the oil pan and check the baffle in the pan. It may have come loose. If not remove the suction screen filter. It may be clogged. If not your oil pump is probably bad

1997 Ford Taurus oil pressure light comes on only when rpm's drop below 700. Have change the oil pressure switch but still happens.

Worn oil pump or cam brgs. Noticed the oil change, what about the oil filter? The oil filter has a bypass in it that will allow unfiltered oil to get past the oil filter if it plugs up. What is your mileage now and how was your maintenance habits? Good Luck. Remember, your cam brgs are the first point of resistance that control your oil pressure, not your rods or mains

Oil light

The oil light typically only shows a lack of oil pressure, not a low oil level. Granted, if the oil level is so low that the pump is losing the ability to pick it up, it could activate then since the low pressure situation would be caused by an extreme lack of oil. Also, when was the last time the oil was changed? A clogged oil filter or severely dirty oil could cause an oil pressure drop.

It could be an oil pump failing, or it could also be a bad sending unit (the part that sends oil pressure data to the instrument cluster). Changing a sending unit or disconnecting it and hooking a pressure gauge to the port is usually easier than pulling the oil pan to replace the pump. If it were me, I would start there and make sure it wasn't a false alarm.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

OIl pressure can drop to zero after car warms wup.

Check oil level.
First verify the pressure is dropping and not some other problem.
You will need to connect a pressure gauge to the engine to read the true pressure.
If the pressure reads good then the sending unit is bad.
You should have new oil and filter. A bad filter can cause pressure drop.
