Car has not been driven since 2000 on regular basis but, wipers have been turned on once in awhile. Turned wipers on, now won't turn off. Any ideas? Is there a resistor or wiper switch in steering column? Turn signal lever has cruise and wiper controls in it, and seems to work fine. I hit windshied washers to clean windshield off and now wipers won't shut off, unless I unplug at motor.
Having windshield wiper/washer problems? Here are some more common problems.
The wiper motor is commonly replaced and was often not the problem. Don't replace the motor yet. maybe it's not the motor. It could be a fuse or something at the wiper switch. The wiper motor has two windings, fast and slow. The wiper switch sends a ground signal to each motor winding. More often, there are problems with the relay, or at the wiper switch, or in the cable to the motor.
Don't be too quick to replace the washer pump. The problem is often just a clog in the sprayer heads. You can clean out the sprayer holes with a needle, some have two holes, so look closely. Hope this helps.
Turn wipers to off then turn the car off. We have the same problem in our 1986 Pontiac parisienne brougham

YOUR TURN SIGNAL / MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.
CHECK THE CONNECTIONS UNDER THE COLUMN FOR TIGHTNESS AND BURNED WIRING.
SOURCE: windshield wiper not moving.motor works.
open the hood and at the base of the wiper arm is a little balck cap, remove this cap and under it is a nut. this nut holds the wiper arm tight onto a spline. check to see if the nut has backed off or needs to be tightened. if not remove the nut and take off the wipers, the black cowel (at the bottom of the windshield) is held on with three plugs.(one in the middle and one on each end.) and one large plug below the passanger wiper blade. the wiper assembly and motor is under this cowel.
hope this helps
