SOURCE: 1993 TOYOTA TERCEL 1500cc Valve Seals Replaced now smokes much worse

You either have had the wrong valve seals installed, they are physically missing, or the valves are incorrect (too loose in the guides/stem too thin). The rocker arm seals will not contribute to your issue. If it did not have the oil smoke before you took the head off, the issue is with whatever the machine shop did. Valve seals have to fit TIGHT, or oil will go down the valve stem into the intake.
Take the head back to the machine shop & tell them to fix it. For free.

SOURCE: oil consumption, no smoke, no leaks

Yes a crappy PVC valve can cause some of your problems but not necessarily all of them, they are cheap, I always replace it to start. The air cleaner housing being full of oil is like how the oil is being consumed. In addition to a PVC valve, there may also be a blow-by hose running into the housing. check to see what other hoses go into the housing & which ones have oil coming from them. I'm not familiar with the "Motor Honey" you mentioned but I rarely add additives to my Engine oil, especially if they are thickeners. The only stuff I recommend is a Quaker state or similar "High Mileage Oil". These semi-synthetic oils have additives to swell old rubber & cork seals in older engines and can help reduce oil consumption & leakage. Again, it may not be a total solution, but it couldn't hurt to drain out all of the existing oil & replace with a high mileage type & also change the filter at the same time. Never mix it with other oils, despite the manufacturer telling you it may be safe to do so.

3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel Mercedes. 115,000 miles. When it is left on tickover for 10 to 15 mins starts to smoke white/grey smoke from exhausts. After a few minutes of normal driving the smoke stops.

Possible cause is several drops of oil are leaking past the valve guide seals when the vehicle just sits. When it is started the oil begins to burn off in the cylinders and after awhile the smoke disappears. I have always recommended cha going the oil to a synthetic and adding an oil additive called Restore. It comes in a cylindrical can in 4, 6 or 8 cylinder size. Put 1 can in with the new oil. Drive the vehicle on the highway for 45 - 60 minutes. I recommend putting on a few hundred Mrs. The additive restores the valve seals preventing the oil from dripping into the cylinders. Have used it on my customers vehicles for 20 years. Saved them a lot of money from replacing the seals.

Engine smokes after start up for 1-2 min.

Depending on engine mileage, could be bad valve guide seals (high mileage) or PCV system issue. If seals, these can be replaced without removing cylinder heads.

What does blue smoke mean

Burning oil. Could be a couple of things. Possible your valve guide seals are warn out. If its blue smoke mostly when you first start the car, its likely valve guide seals. If its continuously smoking blue, its more than likely a broken or warn out piston ring. If its just every so slightly blue in tent, it might be worth a try to replace your PCV valve first. When the PCV valve gets completely gummed up, the pressure inside your valve covers has no way to vent other than forcing its way through the valves into the cylinders often times taking oil with it. Since PCV's usually only run out about $10 its worth a shot. Other wise, you've got a decent overhaul ahead of you for either piston rings or valve seals...on a 12 year old car most folks would either choose to scrap it, or live with the blue smoke while monitoring oil levels and watching for fouled plugs. Hope that helps and good luck!!

what color is the smoke? Could be engine oil caused by a bad valve seal. Shaking could be due to fouling plugs from the oil. Need to pull off valve cover and replace seals. Need more info.

smoke indicates a weak engine, if it is only at start or beginning few minutes of driving then hopefully it is rings only which is weakened and needs replacement, as per your note it seems only at start and the vibration is it only at cold start and what about if after running a more then 5 miles even you stop the car and start in few second does it still vibrate or no, please let me know

Lots of people may tell you that could be Valve Oil Seals, or Piston Rings, yes may be, but one way to eliminate or diminish that smoke ir replacing the PCV valve.

Blue smokes come out tailpipe when i start the car but stops afte

Helllo there
Symptom: Gray or blue smoke from the exhaust. You notice gray smoke coming from the exhaust when you start your car. The smoke may or may not disappear after the car is warmed. If it is, it is less noticeable. The smoke may have a bluish tint to it. Possible causes:

  1. The engine's piston rings may be worn.
The Fix: Replace piston rings. (Generally not a DIY job)
  2. The engine's valve seals may be worn.
The Fix: Replace valve seals. (Generally not a DIY job)
  3. Damaged or worn valve guides.
The Fix: Replace valve guides. (Not a DIY job)
Symptom: Engine uses more oil than normal, and there is some smoke from the exhaust. The oil level is low between oil changes. It appears that the oil is being burned by the engine because of the smoke in the exhaust. You may or may not notice the engine doesn't have the same power as it used to.
Possible causes:

  1. The PCV system is not working properly.
    The Fix: Replace PCV valve.
  2. The engine may have mechanical problems.
The Fix: Check compression to determine engine condition.
  3. The engine's piston rings may be worn.
The Fix: Replace piston rings. (Generally not a DIY job)
  4. The engine's valve seals may be worn.
The Fix: Replace valve seals. (Generally not a DIY job)

Smoking after start up

If it's the org. engine it will has over 160,000 miles on it.
It's normal to has valve stem seal/oil seal on the head to leak oil into the cyclinder on high mileage engine.

The smoke you see is the motor oil drop from the valve stem seals. The oil drops land on the top of the cyclinders and it create black smoke at start up.

The inexpensive fix is to start using high mileage oil with seal conditioner.
This will help soften the rubber seals and help reduce internal oil leak.

The correct fix is to wait until it's time for a head gasket replacement and let the professional CRC/service the head.

Complete head service is the only method to stop this internal oil drip problem.
