I had this issue recently with my 1992 Camry with the 2.2 motor. I had to replace the coil that is inside the distributor. This got the car running, it is about $40 at the auto parts stores. Then car was intermittently running rough. I removed the throttle body and Idle Air Control valve and cleaned them both. Seemed to improve starting but still was idling rough when warmed up. Some of the Toyota forums I read suggested replacing the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor ($20) so I began to pull the connector off to check it when it broke in half. Put the new one on and is running well now. When this sensor goes bad, the computer thinks the engine is cold even after it warms up so it gives it more fuel, and this floods the engine. Hope this gives you some ideas to try.

I believe your A/C idle up valve may have failed. They do this when hot, but test OK when cold. See here p228

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

If it runs fine and the idle is the only problem you could try idling it up some with the idle set screw on the throttle body it sounds like it may be a little bit out of time those toyotas have a fine lins on the timing.

Early 90's had a thing called Idle Stabilizer valve.It should sit on the top of the motor,some models had it sitting on the side of motor.Anyway this part is about 4-5 inches long,abou 1-1.5 in diametar and it has vacuum hoses connection and electrical conection.I'n most cases,the diaphragm could be dirty,thus restrictin internal part to slide back and forward.If you are handy,locate the ISV and remove it.Use some brake parts cleaner( can use up to 1 can) and clean it good.When cleaned spray, just a spritz of of WD40 on each opening and reinstall it.If problem still persist, you will have to purchase a new one that will run you about $200-325 buck.Hope I could help.
