Mark VIII engine stalls after approx 1 mile.

My 1995 MK VIII starts and runs great. Problem is that when you first start it it will run about 1 mile and the engine shuts off for a fraction of a second and then picks up and runs ok. It will do this every tine I turn off the ignition switch and restart. After it does this one time it will run great until I stop and turn it off.

You will first need to remove the plastic piece behind the inner door handle that you use to pull the door shut with and there should be a 10mm bolt inside there behind the insulation. The plastic cover behind the inner door lever handle will need to come out. It's only in with clips. Remove the reflective lens on the end of the panel and you will see a phillips head screw inside. It's a long screw so be ready for many turns to get it out. Next, your power window controls will need to come out and they are only snapped into place but be careful with them because plastic prongs can be broken off if not pried out in the right direction. The same goes for the door lock switch. Unplug both once out. You will also see a triangle plastic piece (can break easily) towards the front top side of the panel. Make sure it clears it's way out when removing the panel. The rest of the panel is held up with downward facing plastic clips. Sounds hard but really it's all pretty simple. Study the back of the panel before putting it back on and take your time.

What is causing my 93 mark 8 to stall at idle

I had a problem with both the speedometer and odometer in a Lincoln. It may also have an effect on the engine operation. My speedometer showed 45mph standing still and miles were rolling up on the odometer.

For me, it was a bad Alternator. The alternator was shorting out through the case. You should have your alternator checked and if you find out it is good, then the problem is something that is charging the car body.

You are getting a stray current that is messing up your dash and engine controls. You may have a power wire which rubbed through its insulation.

1998 Lincoln Mark VIII sometimes stalls when idling in gear

Do you have a "Check Engine" light?

Check the coils in each cylinder. At 140k the valve cover gaskets tend to break and oil will fill the coils causing misfires and stalling.

I have a 1996 lincoln mk Viii, i was driving and the car went completely dead, I got a jump, made it home, lights kept going dim, so i figured it was the altenator, I replaced the altenator with one from...

you replaced it with one from the junkyard. Who's to say the car in the junkyard didn't have the same issue before it died? Anyway, the check engine light and low idle may be attributed to the fact that the ECM lost all power to it, and when the vehicle is running and ECM loses power, it will throw a check engine light. Also now the ECM will need to relearn it's idle and various other parameters that take a lil time. (15 miles or so) I would have the check engine light checked to see which code you have. Also make sure the air suspension is not leaking. That is the number 1 killer of alternators on mark viii's.

1993 lincoln mk v111-how do i change the timing belt>>

you have the same engine as a 96+ 4.6L Cobra (well 95% the same).
Are you trying to change the engine timing? You cant, its processor-controlled. There's no distributor so nothing to move there either.
To beef it up, get a new processor from someone that advertizes on the Mark VIII forums (NOT a chip kit that only works on wide-open throttle). Use AWSFA-12C Motorcraft spark plugs (they DO exist, make your dealer look up the part number), and get ACCEL coils. Nology wires if you can afford them. Get "Jerry's Mad" done to your transmission, and a high-stall converter (2700), and a cold air box, and a 160 degree thermostat. Underdrive pulleys from STEEDA (just use the crank and water pump pulley)
My car has all this and does 12.10 in the 1/4 mile with tools in the trunk and a full tank of gas!
Do the transmission mod anyways, or at LEAST change the fluid to full synthetic (MERCON 5). If you dont, it WILL burn out soon, very soon. Mine did and they arent cheap...and transmission shops dont know how to fix them.
