If you have the manual transfer case (lever actuated), use DEXRON-III Automatic Transmission Fluid. If you have an automatic transfer case (push button actuated), you should use the fluid that GM recommends. Some owners' manuals may say to use Automatic Transfer Case Fluid (GM Part No. 12378396), which is a reddish colored fluid. GM has a new Auto Trak II Transfer Case Fluid (GM Part No. 12378508), which has a bluish color to it. The newer fluid has better friction modifiers. While your doing the job, it's a good idea to change the drain and fill plugs (GM Part No. 15032997) out too.

SOURCE: type and capacity of fluids

The kind of fluid needed is called GLS this is not something you can get at some grease and go. To my knowledge this particular fluid is still a dealer only item. DO NOT put ATF in your transfer case. I don't remember the capacity but the dealership would have this information.

On my 1998 dodge the transfer case wont engage in any range why?

it sounds like a linkage problem ? first check fluid level in transfer case , then remove linkage and try to engage transfer case manually , if it does then there is a shifter problem if you can't and fluid level is OK then there is a internal problem and transfer case has to be removed for internal inspection, good luck.

Fluid capacity and type for 2004 trail blazer transfer case

The only recommended fluid for the transfer case is GM AutoTrak and 2 one liter bottles are used. Also, it is very important to change this fluid every 50K miles.

I've replaced my transmission with a used one and everything runs well but im loosing fluid from the top of the transfer case. after reserching this a little it loks like ive installed the wrong fluid....

You didn't say what year or model transfer case you have, but if you are losing fluid from the top of the transfer case, then you have a leak. Changing the type of fluid won't fix it. Find and repair the leak. As for the type of fluid you need, if ATF came out of it then ATF goes back into it. You do not need the blue stuff unless it is all-wheel drive, and the last time I checked 1500 series trucks were not AWD (All-Wheel Drive).

What type/brand of transfer case fluid is recommended & quantity

Auto tek fluid, it's blue, you get at your dealer only. If you don't spill a drop you will only need 2 qrts. if you spill just a little then it won't be full and you'll end up needing 2.03 qrts.
