New battery, alternator checks out fine...car still dies

On Christmas Eve, the Check Engine light appeared on my Dodge Grand Caravan (1993). The next day, the Check Engine light was no longer on. Then on New Years Day, the Check Engine light came on again and the battery meter in the car fell to 8 and the lights wouldn't work, the transmission failed to change and the MPH stopped working. We took the battery and alternator in to be check and the battery was bad, the alternator good. We replaced the battery and another week passed. Then the dreaded Check Engine light came on again...for 4 days straight without turning off. Then it fell to 8 again, lights stopped working, transmission failed to change Check Gages light came on and the MPH stopped working. We are at a loss as to what could be wrong with our vehicle other than it is VERY old. Please help...it needs to last just 2 months more.

1993 Dodge Grand Caravan. The Door is locking & unlocking itself repeatedly when lights are on & or the wipers are on.

Help here, but the lights and wipers aspect make me wonder if there are connection issues with the Body Control Module and all those features are controlled by it. You need an auto electrician.

We have a 1993 Dodge Caravan 2.5L L4. New alternator, new battery, new starter, all 7 relays under hood and PCM "one thats in the air intake assembly". Still not charging back up. fine during the...

I have pasted your schematic below. With all new parts, the likely problem is with the wiring. If the car runs OK, the wire with the orange stripe is probably fine. So then you need to check the green wire to the computer for good continuity. Then check the black battery wire and fuse. Finally, check the ground wires. You might try connecting jumper cables directly from the battery to the alternator and turning the lights on to see if good connections make a difference. If they do, then take one off at a time to see which one is the problem (positive or negative).

1991 Dodge Grand Caravan dies while driving won't restart

If it sputters or hesitates while driving I would suggest a new fuel filter. If it runs smoothly and just dies out you may have a fuel pump which needs to be replaced because it is going bad. If fuel pump relays or other types of relevant fuses are blown it would not start at all. Your mechanic could also pull a spark plug and check for a blueish white high voltage spark if it has an orange or reddish tint that would denote a lower voltage spark normally from a worn out coil pack, spark plug, plug wire etc. Through advanced engine diagnostics you can have your vehicle connected to an oscilloscope or a cylinder dwell meter which can cancel out spark to each cylinder to check for function. However your best bet may be the fuel pump, if your vehicle dies again check to see if your vehicle is getting any fuel first then you'll know for sure.

Lights started flickering battery light came on Dash lights and gages went crazy now wont start

Like you said, battery may be flat. You can check that with a multimeter.

Next check the alternator. Faulty alternator leads to uncharged battery.

Something is draining the battery; alternator checks ok; new batt

if you can get the car started while it is running take the positive side of the battery cable off if it dies then it is the alternator if it does not die check the drive belt to see if it is loose or slipping
