SOURCE: howling noise while driving.
Need a little humor now and then, anyway it sounds like you have a pinion gear bearing that's noisy, they really howl when they get worn out, in order to change this bearing the rear end gears must be removed, new bearings should be installed on all parts, 4 total, the metal from the failed pinion bearing will ruin the rest of the bearings, might as well only do it once, also change the axle bearings and seals while you are in there.
SOURCE: Where do I find the fuel filter on my 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche?
Look down under the vehicle, on the inside of the frame, on the drivers side frame rail, right about where the front of the bed and back of the cab meet. Being a 2002 this is where the filter should be if its not there its inside the gas tank and you wont need to worry about it. thanks for using fixya!! lemme know if you find it.
SOURCE: how do you change the rear brake pads on a 2002
You need to remove the 2 bolts that attach the caliper to the mounting bracket (big metal) with an 18mm socket, use a 1/2" drive ratchet to give you some torque. If you are removing the other bolts that just "turn" you are on the wrong bolts, these are the bolts that allow the caliper to slide in and out freely. you should be able to then use a ligth hammer to tap the entire assemble off of the rotor. then replace you pads and rotors if needed. also your parking brake is located inside the drum of the rear rotor. Making adjustments to these can be quite a process but can be done in the driveway. good luck.

I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes then reconnected the battery. I started the engine then immediately shut off the climate control, the engine still running. After ten minutes I turned the climate control on, everything works okay.
