just a heads up, what CAUSED the problem? did it happen after driving in deep snow? there is a fix kit for the breather ,avail. for this car, 2003's were plugging w/snow and blowing gaskets , so before u repair u might want to look into this..

    same problem

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

I have a 3003 Caddy CTS with 90,000 miles on it and the Valve Head Gasket is leaking. In addition to the replacing the head gasket, i was told that three manifold gaskets are "in the way" and have to be replaced to opnen the engine. I was quoted about 600.00, that's when I called a highly qualified "old school" family shop known for their integrity. Price for a new Valve head gasket installed? 250.00, not 600.00, so I am wondering, does the repair require the removal of manifold gaskets that are then replaced?

    Baffled in FL.

Ok, woodhujr,if im not mistaken you had another help request of cranckcase pressure...that problem is causing your leak.
ccny, i have no idea what you are talking about, feel free to enlighten us...
Howard, the best advise i have for you in replacing the valve cover gasket(s) is to get a repair manual for this car/engine and follow the steps as outlined there. I couldnt try to give you step by step instructions in this little box without way oversimplifying.

You have more crankcase pressure than you are supposed to. The pcv system needs to be modified. Check on the cadillac forums or search for a TSB on the system. I have seen ddetailed pdfs on the modification that gm sent out to the dealerships.

When it is very cold out it seems like my breathers get frozen open and the oil leaks from there. My mechanic noticed a bunch of condensation build up which froze. He cleaned it last year and no more problems. It just happened again this year when the temp dipped real low.

Where is the oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 on a 2000 pontiac montana 3400 located

Oxygen sensors, (O2 sensor), are mounted in the exhaust system. The 'banks' refer to the left and right sides of the engine.
Looking at the engine, move around to the Left side of the vehicle. This should be where the belts are fitted. Looking across the engine, (windscreen to your left), Bank One is nearest the driver and Bank Two is nearest the headlights.
Looking down the back of the engine, windscreen side, find the exhaust manifold. There should be a long silver sensor sticking up towards you. this is the O2 sensor for Bank One, Sensor One.
The attached video link is a Only A Guide but it's a Pontiac engine so should be similar to what you need.
**NOTE** when refitting the new sensor try not to touch the part of the sensor that fits inside the exhaust manifold. Surface grease or oil can affect the sensor. *Also*. Tighten it by hand at first. When it grips use the socket to turn it the last fraction of a turn. When you feel the socket get tight STOP!!
If you can, find out what the torque wrench setting is and use that.

Oil smoke.coming from both sides of engine

Check your rocker cover gaskets for any signs of oil leaks. Oil leaking from your engine can contact the exhaust headers, or other hot parts of the engine and can burn, resulting in smoking and a burning smell.

P0138 and p0158

These codes, po 138 bank 1 sensor 2 shorted to voltage and code po158 means bank 2 sensor two shorted to voltage. these are the two rear oxygen sensors in the exhaust system. there two up frt and two in the rear, check the wiring on the two rear sensors, make sure that the wiring is not cut or stuck between metal. if the wiring is good then replace both rear sensors, when you get them ask for the left and right after the cat sensors. or bk1 s2 and bk2s2. after replacing them reset the computer. go to an auto parts sotre or if you have a code reader you can do it. hope this helps good day.

Is the PCM the issue?

The P0140 code is caused by or is affected by the P0141 code. Fix the P0141 code first before worring about the P0140.
It is good you had the connections cleaned as oil contamination will cause a problem with the O2 system.
The "automotive electrician" should have performed a continuity test from the O2 sensor heater fuse to the PCM connector were the heater is grounded. The resistance value should be 35ohms. If the value is too high, the PCM will set the P0141 code. I would suspect you have an open circuit in either high or low side of the O2 sensor heater circuit.
Good luck.

2005 expedition 5.4 bank 1 too rich, cylinder 1 misfire, o2 sensor 1 error, I changed o2 sensor, spark plug & coil but engine is still smoking, raw fuel, doesn't seem to be firing on bank 1

un plug the fuel injector and see if the raw fuel smell, goes way, if it does the injector could be stuck open. if this is the case the more you run it the more fuel is getting into the crank case, this can wash the bearings and ruin the engine, check the oil see if you smell fuel if you do, you will have to pull up the injector rail with all the injectors and cycle the key one time, watch that injector to see if it drips fuel after the rest have stopped . if it leaks replace the injector all the injector o rings and change the oil.

Which is the bank two o2 sensor in a g6 gt

Bank 1 is always the cylinder bank that has piston/cylinder no. 1 in it; usually the left side in a rear wheel drive GM, or the front side in a front wheel drive GM. The O2 sensor will be located on either the exhaust manifold, engine exhaust pipe after the exhaust flange, or on the catalytic converter for the 2 bank.
If this helps you, please remember to vote/comment, and good luck.

My toyota vienta 3VZ-FE 1996 - oil leak onto exhaust

Hi,

That engine will leak oil from

- cam cover gaskets (rear one drips on the exhaust)
- camshaft end seals
- distributor shaft o-ring (appears on top of transaxle housing)
- oil filter bracket to block o-ring seal (drips on front bank exhaust)
- crankshaft nose oil seal (have done with timing belt change)
- rear main seal (expensive, leave it be)

PO135 Error Code

Bank one stands for the same side as the number 1 cylinder. Sensor 1 is the first sensor in the bank, (closest to the engine or upstream).
In most cases you will find it on the drivers side\left hand side of the engine and above the catalytic converter. Look for it on the lower portion of the exhaust manifold.

Where is bank 2 sensor one on a Cadillac CTS?

Bank 2 Sensor 1 is on the driver side - follow the right side of the engine down the headers which attaches to the catalytic converter. The o2 Sensor you're asking about (Bank 2 Sensor 1) is before the Catalytic. The o2 Sensor after the Catalytic is Bank 2 Sensor 2. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is on the passenger side as well as Bank 1 Sensor 2.
