From what I understand even a "qualified" Ford mechanic has problems locating this and if you look at a pre-2000 Haynes or Chilton manual it shows it being in a completely different location but to answer your question from what I understand (never changed one myself) it's on the passenger side, under the dash and should be by the radio. Should be held on by one or two screws. Also easy to get to if the radio is removed.

I had a similar problem on my windstar.  It was an older model, but when I replaced the fuel cap it solved my problem.  apparently when there is even the smallest leak in a pressurized tank it sends the check engine light on.  Other than that, It might be an oxygen sensor.
Hope this helps.  Tim

Temperature gauge will increase after 10 minutes of driving or stopping at a signal light, I have changed the cabin air filter, along with adding some cleaner in the gas tank.

Temperature gauge has nothing to do with that air filter or the fuel needing an additive. Most likely needed neither, but now their new. Temperature gauge will rise if theirs not enough coolant in the cooling system. Under the hood and alongside the engine on one fender you'll find a plastic container, us old timers call it a catch can, that has markings on the side to tell you what the coolant level is and it needs to be filled when cold to the mark stated on the side of it. When engine is warm, coolant expands and the level will be higher than the safe mark. when the engine is shut off and the coolant slowly cools, the coolant level should be dead on the safe mark. Have a wonderful day.

a bad fuel level in the tank should not cause the tank not to fill up,but it can cause bad readings to the gauge. so the tank may have had more fuel in it than you thought and that is why it wouldn' t take the gas as it should. then when you filled up the next time the fuel level was correct so it filled up like you knew it was suppose to.I suggest you monitor the fuel with your trip odometer and fiil up every 200 miles to make sure the gauge is reading like it should or you may run out of gas.

{: ) It is still safe to drive as long as you are aware you have enough gas for the trip. The problem is your fuel level sensor could be getting erratic and sending inaccurate signals to the engine control module, thus illuminating the check engine light at times. If you unexpectedly run out of fuel, thats when you will stall on the road. Better have it checked as soon as possible.

It would be nice to know why the service engine light came on and is still on. An auto mechanic can read the code for you, or a dealer, or some parts stores will sell a device to read the code that caused the light to come on.

You will need to replace the fuel level sensor which is in the fuel tank. They have a lot of problems because the metal fingers on the sensor wear off and gives you the incorrect readings. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You will probably have a level sensor code. This will be a lot easier if the fuel level is down to about a quarter tank or less. Also you should be able to get just the level sensor and not have to get the complete fuel pump module.Good luck.
