It means there is a fault stored in the computer memory that needs to be identified and fixed.
Have the code read or take it to advance auto and they will lend you the reader so you can plug into the diagnostic port under the dash and read the code.
The code reader can then be used to reset the check engine light and turn it off.

check your timing chain and see if your engine has a tensioner as that may have failed. chain may be just a lil loose

Take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes stored. The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has noted a fault in one of the car's systems. p0340 is indicating a problem with the CMP sensor .. thats "camshaft position sensor" ... the 340 would indicate that the sensor is open or shorted (not giving information) ... look for disconnected or defective CMP or CAMP sensor ..
