99` saturn won`t start. I checked the fuel pump, it has spark,

The timing chain seems to have the correct slack. The engine seems to turn over too easily. What else should I look into ?

I have the same problem. I am not getting any spark to the plugs. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, the coolant temp. sensor, the spark plugs, and the ignition module. I also tested both coils. I am getting ready to chang out the plug wires next. Any other ideas?

Have you checked if your getting spark. You can do this by removing a plug and having someone hit the key for you. watch the spark plug don't touch it or you will get zapped. If you see a strong spark you should be good. Do this for all plugs. Alternatively you can try the crank position sensor this should be mounted between the intake manifold and the starter. Follow the wires to the location and unscrew the sensor.

If that is not the problem and your getting spark and gas to the cylinders. Let me know

Turns over but wont fire 99 Saturn SL

If your 1999 Saturn SL turns over but won't start, there could be a few different reasons why. Here are some possible causes:

Faulty fuel pump: The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the engine. If it's not working properly, the engine won't receive enough fuel to start. You can check if the fuel pump is working by turning the key to the "on" position and listening for a humming sound coming from the fuel tank. If you don't hear anything, the fuel pump may be faulty.

Dead battery: If the battery is dead, the engine won't have enough power to start. You can try jump-starting the car to see if that helps.

Ignition system problems: If the ignition system isn't working properly, the engine won't start. This could be caused by a faulty ignition coil, distributor, or spark plugs.

Clogged fuel filter: If the fuel filter is clogged, fuel won't be able to flow properly to the engine. This can cause the engine to stall or not start at all.

Bad crankshaft position sensor: The crankshaft position sensor tells the engine control module (ECM) when to fire the spark plugs. If it's not working properly, the engine won't start.

These are just a few possible causes of a Saturn SL that turns over but won't start. It's best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose the problem to ensure that it's fixed correctly.

I have a 2007 Saturn vue 2.2l and it cranks but won't start

50 causes, want to guess wrong 50 times
its not a dead started. nor dead battery. nor bad alternator at this point.
the word is start, not turns over, the starter motor and engine both turn over called spinning, he engine then spins(turns) and then spark burns the fuel so spark is first.
not start using jumper cable car top car other car running,
like the AAA auto club tow man does 100 times a day.
?
if dead , check spark, fuel can not burn lacking good spark\
we test all spark plugs for strong spark
if you did the chain wrong the cam is time wrong and now cam and spark are timed wrong. and compression is 1/2 normal and is now 3 ways wrong. see? chain wrong cause 3 wrongs
and on modern cars newer, the PCM sees CMP and CKP out of sync and pcm then cuts spark and cutting spark cuts fuel tool
so now 5 ways wrong
your post did not say at what point that work made engine dead.
your list if events seems wrong. time
runs
new chain
dead , is this it?, seems so to me but I can not watch you mess up.

the chain can not be just thrown on
and TDC happens 2 times on 4 cycle engines
the correct TDC must be used per the manual.
some use #1 firing other cars use #4
or just match marks crank and cam,

L61 engine with chain balance shaft.
cam chain, shows 7 tools to do this job , ouch
step 22
Rotate the crankshaft in the engine rotational direction clockwise, until the No.?1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
ahhhh yes very tricky timing settings to avoid piston valve hITS
steps:
Rotate the crankshaft in the engine rotational direction clockwise, until the No.?1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. set chain color cap to crank cog mark
then at cams, 2 more chain caps at:
set EXH mark cam to chain colored cap
  1. Using the dampener, rotate the crank so that the mark on the timing chain drive sprocket is at 5?o'clock position.
  2. Set the crankshaft to 60?degrees before the top dead center.
position the exhaust camshaft with the offset slot to 2?o'clock position.EXH mark.
Position intake camshaft with offset slot to 11?o'clock position..
INT mark
all; 3 marks must be correct or bend valves you will
if set wrong DO IT AGAIN> now, keys in pocket.
this is an INTERFERENCE engine,
use DUE RESPECT OF THIS or huge damage happens./

Saturn won t start

3 things keep a motor from starting.1. NO SPARK, 2. NO FUEL,. 3 ENGINE DAMAGE. I SUSPECT IT IS THE IGN MODULE WHICH IS INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTER. cHECK TO SEE IF IT HAS SPARK.. iF IT DOES THE IGN MODULE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. iF IT DOES HAVE SPARK CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS PUMPING FUEL.. DO THIS BY SQUIRTING A LITTLE FUEL INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD THROUGH THE INTAKE AIR HOSE RIGHT BEFORE IT CONNECTS WITH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. .. iF THE MOTOR FIRES AND TRYS TO RUN YOU KNOW FUEL IS THE PROBLEM. IN WHICH CASE IT COULD BE A CLOGGED FUEL FILTER OR A INOPERTIVE FUEL PUMP. iF IT HAS FUEL AND SPARK LOOK FOR A BROKEN OR STRIPPED CAM TIMING BELT. NOT TURNING THE CAM OR CAMS.

2002 saturn sl won't start, turn over but won't start

If the engine fires up for a second or two with starting fluid then the fuel pump is weak.I would check the fuel pressure and if its not within the specs then replace the pump and filter.

2001 saturn l200 will not start even though starter turns engine over.will the engine sound different during turnover if the timing chain is broken?

if the timing chain is broken it will sound different like there is no compression also this is an interference engine i think meaning the valves will hit the pistons if the timing is not correct, like in a broken chain or belt.you should check to see if you have spark at the plugs and if the motor is getting fuel.if not then each system will have to be checked out depending which is not working.

Turns over but, won't start

Possible you must have the car checked for the basic fuel/ignition system.
You will need to check on the fuel, the fuel filter, the fuel pump. Check the calibration of the pump .
Also check the spark intensity , check the plugs the HT coils and the trigger voltages.
The ignition timing also must be checked to confirm that the firing is correct.
Finally the engine must crank well so that there is enough voltage to the ignition system.
Hope there are no errors codes that come up when the ignition is turned.

CRAP..............

Did you check to see if you have fuel pressure to your fuel injectors??? You probably have spark, just no fuel from your fuel injectors. Check that and go through the trouble shotting your fuel system, common for the fuel pump on saturns to wear out and having weak fuel pressure. Try spraying starter fluid though the air intake and see if the engine will start, if it does. Then you have fuel pressure issues.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya

My 2000 saturn l series won't start.new battery. seems like it wants to start, just won't catch

If it turns over but won't run, I would check to make sure you're getting fuel and spark. Pull a plug after turning the engine over a few times and if it smells like gas then you're getting fuel, if not then that's your problem. If you're getting fuel, you may not be getting spark. Hold the plug against the engine block and have someone turn the engine over a couple times. You should be able to see spark, but if not then there's your problem. Good luck!

1997 ford f-150 starts then backfires thru intake and then shuts off.

most likely the feul pump. test the feul pressure with a gauge. look of ther little metal feul line on the intale manifold. tst pressure. have freind listen at the rear of the truck for the pump prime. key on only. then start the truck, friend should hear pump running. could also need a timming chain but pump is more tlikely
