Idle problems hello, i have been having problems with the idling of my jeep, whenever i start my vechile, it idles very high around 1200 rpms or so, then after a few seconds it idles down as it gets warmer, which is normal.....the problem is whenever i put it in gear from park to reverse it doesn't idle down and when it goes into drive it doesn't idle down....which results in whenever you let off the break with it in drive it goes as if you're giving it gas....even if you're sitting uphill and let of the break it will continue to climb the hill as if you're giving it gas....i've changed the idle air control valve because a mechanic said that was the problem....but it hasn't helped, however i have found that if you unplug the idle control valve it does fine, it idles where it's supposed to and the idle drops to normal range when shifting in a and out of gear.....any thoughts on this would help! thanks!

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee idling problem. Revs motor 200 to 500 rpms higher while driving.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

SOURCE: will idle high sometimes up to 3000 rpms when driving or sitting still

I have the same Jeep and same problem. The engine was running rough. The Jeep dealer fixed a vacum problem in the manifold and they then decarbonized and cleaned the fuel injectors. After these repairs the idle problem began, it would spike to 2000 rpm while sitting at idle, sometimes it would slowly come down, sometimes I would have to tap the accelerator. I took it back in and they then replaced the throttle motor and reprogrammed the PCM (Power Control Module?) Still same problem. Now they suspect a another vacuum leak and I am taking it back in on Tuesday, will let you know what happens, $ 1,300 so far.

My 04 Jeep GC is idling around 500rpm in Drive and Reverse. I had the IAC valve replaced after it was doing this about a month earlier, and it seemed to be the problem...until yesterday. The idling

it could be a new bad IAC motor...especially if its an aftermarket brand!! something like that even though the part is a little more expensive go with OEM jeep parts, especially electrical stuff.

I just bought a 1996 Nissan 300 zx non turbo 5 speed and it won't idle. But when you put it in gear it will idle at like 2000 rpms or if you turn the heater on it will idle at about 1200 rpms. I

Try twinturbo.net. plenty of 300zx enthusiasts and info on that site. Has a tech forum and links to faq. Look around and search. I go there for help on my 93 Z. And no, it doesn't have to be a turbo model.

I have a idle problem with a 1997 Jeep Grand Chorkee with a 5.2 V 8

Check OBD fault codes; could be some fuel injection or air intake or vacuum system problem.

Idles at 1000 - 1200 rpms won't drop

high idle could be caused by air inlet duct collapsed loose or air filter element clogged, idle air control valve failed, idle air inlet passage or throttle bore is dirty full of deposit, mass air flow is dirty out of calibration, throttle plate throttle shaft or linkage is damaged or leaking.have vechicle code scan first before buying new parts.

Why does my 1997 chevy s10 have a high idle while coasting?

Sounds like a dirty air filter is putting the mass airflow sensor out of range. The throttle position sensor is subject to physical wear, the age of your truck warrants replacing it. The coolant temp sensor controls the Idle Air Solenoid which determines idle speed ( cold, high idle, 1200 rpms open loop mode for the ECU) and (hot, low idle, 800 rpms, closed loop mode for the ECU) If the truck does not have a Mass airflow sensor, check the Manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP). Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history to avoid buying parts you don't need. Do the cheapest fixes first. Go ahead and change the fuel filter also. There is a lot of water in todays fuels

Start car and the idle goes to 3000 rpm, holds there for around 12 seconds or so and then comes down to around 1200. when driving if stopped and you put the car in park or nuetral the idle will go up to...

it sounds like a vacuum leak to me, my car had the same problem but when i changed the hose that connected the valve cover to the fuel injectors the rpms dropped back down to about 800 rpms

Engine revving problem

Sounds like your idle speed is way too high, should be somewhere around 800-1200 rpms. I would check for vacuum leaks.
