Coolant coming from back of engine in my 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I was driving down the road and notice steam coming out from under the hood, so I pulled over to the side of the road and notice that there was coolant spraying out from the back of engine. As I looked closer to see what the problem was, I did see a hose in back of the engine, so do not know whether it might be a busted hose that the coolant flows through located in back of the engine, or is it a blown gasket.

I changed the Thermostat about 1 month ago and there is no water coming out of the exhaust pipe. But there is coolant spraying out of the back of the engine. but you think it might be a wise idea to change the thermostat again ?

or check to see if there is a hose that is located behind the engine that the coolant flows through ?

Problem solved there is a hose about 1 foot long that connects from the Thermostat to another connection going into the water heater up by the back of the engine.

If it was running good , the head gasket was unlikely
most likely a blown hose that may have resulted in a more serious problem
two things to do now
1---have the cooling system pressure tested to find the leak-possible hose or welsh plug rusted out
2--- have a compression test done to check for gasket damage

SOURCE: '05 Hyundai Sonata Coolant Change

remove the cap on the radiator or the header tank, use a plastic container that will hold about 4 ltrs of coolant, there should be a drain tap at the bottom of the radiator, if not you have to remove the hose clamp on the bottom hose and let the coolant drain out.
Replace the hose and clamp, top up the radiator and run the motor while checking the coolant level, if the level goes down a bit just top it back up and check over the next day.
hope this helps

if there's water coming out of the exhaust pipe its a head gasket but it could be a bad thermostat and when your car gets to a certain temperature the fan will come on and cool it off

SOURCE: coolant leak in the back of water pump.

replace water pump; sounds like it's coming from the weep hole(that's what it's called), because it starts like tears, and then comes the floodgates. your're gonna need a w pump.

Thermostat needs to be replaced. Refill the coolant after the engine is completely cool. If its still hot the coolant will expand and make it look like the radiator is full. Temp light won't always come on for a thermostat issue.

Would guess there is a high liklihood that you splashed some water off of the road onto a hot engine, hot exhaust, etc. Keep an eye on it for a day or two, but if you don't see the steam on a dry day, and your coolant level is stable, relax.
