I thought that it was a fuel problem so i used some starting fluid and still no start. I have replace the coil the bistributer and all it inside parts still no start.
If the oil pressure sensor is defective and or fails to have oil pressure, it is a failsafe for engine protection. Try this: If the oil pressure gage or light show that oil pressure is present, but it will not crank, then open the fuel line at the throttle body a slight amount, ie. two flats then turn the key and starter just a wee tap or two and have some one watch the fitting for fuel pressure flow. If it leaks as it should, then you have your fuel pump working, however, if still no fuel then you must ck the inline filter under the frame. It could be completely clogged, there again, you could loosen the tank side of the filter and hit the key again and watch for leaks only if you don't get it at the throttle body. If you don't get any pressure leaks (you will get gravity leak on the tankside of the fuel filter) ie, squirting out, then you will likely have to replace the intank fuel pump. '
good luck
ps. the random spark you mention may be ok, remember, each plug sparks on every other revolution of the crank and it must take its turn with 7 others. If you have no plug in the cylinder, then the compression stroke will blow louder and harder than the exhaust stroke and it should fire on the compression stroke when you crank on it.

I have the same problem. I was told that the oil pressure sensor by the distributer may go bad and cutting on the fuel pump. I am going to try and jump the sensor to see if I can get the fuel pump to work.
i have a 1999 gmc saburban slt. I am having the same problem the engine will crank but will not start. I checked to see if im getting fire to my sparkplugs by pulling the number one spark plug and turning key and grounding it to motor to watch for a spark. It sparks but only sometimes.. Not sure what the problem is ive already replaced starter, battery, alternator, and sparkplugs. The spark plug wires seem to be in perfect condition. What could it be?
I assume that the starter will turn the engine but it will not crank.
Do you have a fire in your plugs?
