Anonymous Posted on Nov 10, 2012

I have 2001 acura 3.2tl with 200,000 miles on it. it runs fine i did a tune up used original spark plugs, new air filter and i even changed 4 ignition coils. Only problem i had with this car is when weather goes down under 65 degree, it is impossible to start. it crank but it does not trune on. I replaced coolant temp censor. Also i used synthetic oil 5w30 once car started it runs fine and has good gas mileage. Engine start fine when weather is hot and run great. I dropped my car at pepboys and they could not figure out what is wrong with it. Please someone out there if you could figure out what is wrong with my car, i would greatly appreciate thank you

Plug the block heater in , End get a good battery for it, get awinter battery, Not a california battery, Then it might start, If the engine has seen it,s better days, End don,t use snake oil in it, Use real oil.

SOURCE: New temp gauge spark plugs, gas filter-Radiator engine still hot

on ur firing issue check all ur plug wires, distributor cap and rotor button (if equipped), if u have individual coils for each cylinder u need to check each plug wire for fire by disconnecting it from the sparkplug. Take a screw driver and insert in the open end of the wire and hold it close to, say the intake or anything metal, while a buddy cranks the engine. there is also a spark testing tool that u can pick up @ any parts house for about $15.

The temperature issue sounds like a thermostat problem, it might not be opening all the way.

The bulging of the motor might be a result of not having all cylinders firing.

Worstcase scenario with this kind of milage and the symptoms that u r describing is maybe head gasket blown or also piston rings worn. ( That would explain the oil on the plugs and bulging).

If i can help u any further e-mail me @ [email protected]

SOURCE: I have an Acura integra

You spent some money it would appear for professional
help,as you said you had things done,so you didn't do
those items yourself for some reason

Do you not ask questions at the repair shop or go back to
have the job done correctly?

That said, it is getting old,so don't expect too much in the way
of milage on an old & worn motor

My car has hit the 200,000 mile mark a little while ago. I like doing the stuff myself, but am not sure what all goes into the tune-up. What all should be changed/done for a 200,000 mile tune-up?

the wuggles, A complete tune-up should include: spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, fuel filter and air filter. Change the oil and filter and add some injector cleaner to your gas tank. Also, check all of the vacuum hoses for any deterioration and replace any that look bad. Also, when is the last time you changed the transmission fluid and filter and your coolant? It's good to hear from someone doing preventative maintenance for a change instead of waiting for problems to occur. My hat is off to you. Good luck with this.

What parts do i need to buy for a tune up on a 2001 gmc yukon

For just a standard maintenance tune up you will want:
Oil and filter
Plugs and wires
Air filter
If you want to get really nitty gritty you can get a transmission filter and some tranny fluid.
And I usually run a can of "Sea Foam" through the gas tank for cleaning the injectors

If you go into Advance, or Auto Zone they will get everything I listed above for you. Be sure when doing the plugs and wires that you replace one at a time "wire and plug" if you pull them all off at the same time you won't know where they go when you are ready to put the new ones on.

The only thing to be weary is make sure to as if your vehicle has an exterior trans filter. If not dont worry about the trans filter unless you are mechanically inclined and can take the pan off the transmission and replace the gasket, drain the fluid etc. The internal filters and a flush should be done by a mechanic.

What does a major tune up for a 2004 chevy impala consist of? What should be done and needs to be done?

New spark plugs, oil and oil filter, transmission flush and fill, fuel filter, air filter, coolant flush and fill, clean throttle body plate and bore, clean the MAF sensor, replace any loose or cracked vacuum lines, PCV valve, new air filter, new battery.

99% of the time all you should ever need for a tune up is new spark plugs, and a clean air filter and throttle body. But since your inquiry indicated "major" I gave it more critical thought.

BASIC TUNE UP

Nowadays your basic tune up is a set of spark plugs, oil change and air filter. That is about it, and the spark plugs go for 100,000 miles. So even that is rare. Air filters get blown out, check the water in the battery and all the other fluids, coolant, brake, power steering, tranny. That is a basic tune up. Most people wait till something breaks to fix it. Hope this helps.
