Not mechanically experienced but would like to understand what/where to look The engine started to overheat and stop light came on so immediatley stopped the car. Once filled up with water drove it home ok and checked a couple of hrs later and water took another pint to fill up again
If you are losing coolant in radiator and have a leak in car. You could have a leak in the heater in the car. Could be hoses or core/matrix. If it could be from rain. could be couple things sunroof, plugged drain below front wind shield. I have put a couple links on here.

Friend, You've a bad leak in the heater core or a loose connection under the dash. That's where the water is coming from when the carpet is wet on either side. Look up under the dash with the engine running and warm, you'll find the leak. Push the accelerator down a little to make the pressure a little more if you don't see it at first.

Not necessarily catalytic convertor. this happened on mine recently and it just needed a coil replacing. Costs about £87 at a Renault garage if this is the case
SOURCE: White smoke from Exhaust
hardly likely the exhaust job would cause that, but yes it sounds like you got a blown head gasket. badl lock stricks hmm! also preasure test cylinder head for leaks
SOURCE: starting problems
get the crank sensor (TDC sensor) replaced. It is a very common problem on Renaults. Join us on Renault Forums. Cheers

no your engine is now broken, could be a fault in the E C U take it to deelership, for testing.
SOURCE: Flashing engine management light, Renault Scenic
it could probably be a bad engine control module or just bad distributer or plug wires
