I work at a local mercedes and bmw repair shop, we have seen many vehicles needing new transmisions right around 100,000 miles due to the lack of servicing the transmisison. i have seen some transmisisons go before 100k and many go much longer. But to be safe we recomend servicing at the latest 75k miles. Its great preventative maintenance. The old E300's can go longer but the newer transmisisons in the current models are even being recomended to change the fluid and filter at 40k.

My car 2003 c230 kompressor engine oil and coolant mix at the coolant resevoir tank after i done the head job still the same problem

Does it have a motor oil cooler cooled by motor coolant that could have possibly leaked thru? Transmission fluid cooler?
Was there tell tale on the replaced head gasket indicating a leak?
Condition of a replacement head is important, with no warps, cracks.

How do I check transmission fluid in 1999 Mercedes C230?

The 99 C230 has a "dipstick tube" located in rear of engine close to the firewall accessible from passanger's side under hood. This tube should be covered by a black plastic top. Remove the top and insert a long piece of thin plastic-covered cable (very thin, like 1-2 mm) -- pull this cable back out as soon as you start to feel resistance. It should be wet with red transmission fluid. If it is brown, the fluid should be changed by a "QUALIFIED" technician who will use the correct fluid & procedures

Hello drtonyg... This is an electronic shifter controler on the C230...Almost every time they fail the shifter assy. needs replaced as a whole unit....There have been some techs that have tried to clean and repair the shifter assembly and reuse it but most attempts fail..You can disconnect the shift linkage from the shifter assembly underneath the vehicle and then see if your shifter moves all the way(this would eliminate any shifter assembly failures)
Good luck, i hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.

Mercedes-Benz Transmission Fluid question

the transmission on your MB is sealed with no way to check the trans fluid level,(no dipstick provided for) that is why the report says "sealed". MB did this to stop customers from overfilling there transmissions, which can cause severe damage if not done properly at the correct fluid temp, this requires special test scan tools.
