1992 Honda Prelude Clutch

I have a 1992 Honda Prelude with manuel transmission and the clutch wont engage and cant put car in gear any solutions? A friend said to use brake fluid..is this correct?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

you will first need to fill the clutch reservoir by the master cylinder with yes brake fluid and with the help of a friend pump the brake and bleed the air out at the clutch slave cylinder on the side of the transmission similar to bleeding brakes. If the brake fluid starts to leak out on the ground something in the system will need to be replaced. the brake fluid has gone some place. if the clutch reservoir is full have a friend pump the clutch and see if the slave cylinder is moving the clutch rod. if it is you may have a problem with the release bearing coming apart or the pressure plate may have broken fingers. start with the bleeding first and go from there. Either your master or slave cylinder is leaking (if hydraulic) Replace leaking cylinder with repair kit and blead the system. More serious it could be a problem on the clutch assembly.

My clutch was becoming difficult to engage. The next day it wouldn't engage at all. It will engage when turned off, but when it's turned on and I pull it towards a gear it starts shuddering like it is...

This happen to my prelude... For me I could put in gear and when I let out the clutch it would stall and not move... I unfortunately had to get a new tranny.... It was locked up..... I could still move the car freely off and out of gear....

I put new clutch kit in 1995 honda civic it wont engage in gear

If there was no issue but only a poor clutch prior to your work then the settings of the clutch must be rechecked. Make sure that the clutch functions to disconnect the transmission or else the settings might be wrong.
Secondly in the process of the clutch changing it is possible that the gear movements or levers have be misaligned. please check on this section.

GRATING WHEN ENGAGING IN GEAR

If it is a manual transmission, you may have a clutch/pressure plate going bad, or the synchronizers in the trans are going bad. If it is an auto, you have something going wrong inside the trans, and will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

1992 ford explorer manuel transmission getting it into gear

Try putting it in 2nd, then 1st, if that works, sounds like you clutch is bad or defective. 1st gear has no syncro to slow the gears down, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th do.

1990 honda accord

possibly 2 solutions 1. manual transmission --probably clutch fluid. find out where it is, fill it , and make sure the cap is closed exactly like you took it off. if it's not closed clompletely, pressure won't be able to build up. 2. auto trans-- transmission fluid..note there is no dipstick to check fluid.

1992 honda prelude transmission wont go into gear

Sounds like the pressure plate! Try this, rev the engine for a sec then when it starts to slows down try to put it in reverse - if the gears grind, its the pressure plate which will come with the clutch kit for about 125-175.00.

*rack and pinion is steering not trans! Separate issue??

Difficult shifting into gears

I would look at the clutch itself, if the fluid was low has it got a leak? if the hydraulic system is low and it is leaking you will not have enough travel to engage the clutch. or the pressure plate of the clutch is not releasing the clutch correctly. You should take it to a good transmission shop, who will most likely find the solution.
