You must raise the car off the ground on a lift, then disconnect the wiring to the company. Now remove the bolts holding it to the transfer case an slip it away and free.

I REPLACED THE TRANFER CASE MOTOR AND SELECTOR SWITCH FOR THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND STILL DOESNT WORK ON MY 2008 GMC ENVOY DENALI AND SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT COULD BE WRONG?

Your problem is probably your actuator switch in the front differntial. it is an electronic switch and they sometimes stick or burn out .1A auto parts .com shows how to remove it on u tube . you remove an elector connector and than the switch un screws. sometimes easy but I have had to heat them with a torch to get them out. Go to google type in how to remove actuator switch chevrolet . it should bring up the video. I beleve this will solve your problem if this was helpful please leave good feed back

I have a 1979 ford f250 4x4 and the tranfer case will go in but it wont turn the front driveline

I am a bit rusty on the 22 year old part. Someone else may be more informative, but on some of the 4x4 actuators they used different methods of moving the internal parts.

The actuator used to be Vacuum operated and the part would move a certain distance to put the transfer into high or low mode. If the actuator did not fully extend or contract you would be between gears; sort of in Neutral.

You are now faced with the front driveshaft free-wheeling(But which end?). Disconnect one end of the front driveshaft so you can feel whether the transfer case is free-wheeling or if the other end of the shaft is turning anything in the front axle. With the front hubs locked, the front driveshaft should not turn or if jacked up, the tires should spin when the front driveshaft is turned by hand.

When you are assured that the front axle is fine, then the problem can only be the transfer case. I remember people had a lot of trouble with the actuators.

I hope this gives you a way to test which end of the front driveshaft is the problem.

There are some Blogs on the internet like Ford4x4Owners.com and Off-Road Blogs which can be very helpful. I hope my suggestion helps.

When put in 4 wheel drive the tranfer case engages but the front axle does not turn?

Check the 4WD fuse. They are also prone to bad front axle actuators. They are electrically controlled and sometimes too weak to engage axle shift fork. If fuse good check for power and ground to actuator, if good you'll need an actuator. They do have issues with the transfer case encoder motor, so make sure it actually engages as you said. Front driveshaft turning.

Would like a diagram of the vaccum hose lines to the tranfer case

there are 3 lines on the transfer. one is a vent that t's to the vent of the transmission. one goes to the vacuum bottle. and the other goes to the actuating bladder on the right fender by battery. the switch is actuated when you select a 4wd position and then the vacuum actuates the front axle. very simple setup.

4 wheel drive will not engage on my 1989 gmc sierra 2500?

actually that first soultion is wrong it is correct on smaller pickups but on the full size pick ups they use a differnet sytem
there a electric actuator on front axle
there be two elctrical plugs on front axle u want the bigger of the two other one is just to turn the 4 wheel drive light on
un plug actuator then remove actuator after it removed plug it back in but leave it out of axle turn key on and shift down to 4 wheel drive the actuator should move out if it dont that your problem if i does move this isnt your problem it either the tranfer case or in front axle

Four wheel drive wont engage. Tranfer case is

Sounds like you either have a vaccum leak or your 4 wheel drive actuator is not working to engage the front differential. On my 98 ram there is a black and red plastic lines that are used for the vaccum lines. They are underneath and go from the transfer case to the front axle, check to see if one or both might be cracked or broke completely. If the lines are good then it could be your actuator on the front axle. A new one is about $93 at advance auto parts and not very hard to replace
