The screech noise is most often a slipping engine drive belt so you might want to check the belt condition and for tightness there.

Unfortunately you have one of the most temperamental brands of cars on the planet there, so you may have to be patient with it at times.

You will best be served by plugging in a diagnostic computer and reading any engine fault codes.
Check the condition of the air filter, spark plugs, spark plug high tension leads and fuel filter.
Check the engine oil level. If this is low it can cause engine clatter or tapping noises (caused by engine lash adjusters)

Unfortunately there are so many issues with Renaults in general that I dare not guess at any particular other common faults, as there could literally be anything or everything wrong with it. I'm sorry to sound so negative.

Good luck.

SOURCE: 03 renault scenic wont start when cold unless

hi if on engine starting and warmed you have no problems and no warning/malfunction light showing ? then i would suspect that trouble points to the engine coolant temperature sensor it tells the ecu to provide excess/choke to simplify? fuel as engine is cold so in simple theory you are trying to start with no choke as it was on old carburettor engines if you are old enough to remember ?? (joke) it was much simpler in those days however check the sensor and its plug is clean/secure and wires are ok ? when sensor works your engine fires up and runs withslight increase revs till warmed then settles to idle revsas specified in h/book this sensor is not the temp sensor that works the temp indicator guage it is a seperate sensor and larger screwed into either cyl head or block on the side hope this helps good luck

SOURCE: Is fixing the alternator belt on a renault scenic an easy job?

No timing involved with the belt. Something caused it to come off if didn't break one of the pulleys it runs on can be locked up or worn so that it wobbles. Water pump pulley is most common cause of trouble.

SOURCE: WHEN TO CHANGE TIMING BELT

The Renault schedule for timing belts on the Scenic is 72,000 miles or 5 years. This applies to both the petrol and DCI models as both have timing belts not chains.

However, please be aware that it is common knowledge in the trade not to let the interval go past 40,000 miles because these engines are renowned for snapping belts at any time after 40k resulting in serious engine damage.

Haynes (who are renowned for their service manuals on many models) recommend a maximum interval of 36,000 miles between belts on this model which is exactly half that of what Renault say!

This information from Haynes is backed up by experience and reports from the trade on the common and unfortunate experiences of customers experiencing belt breakage at 45 k and below.

Hope this helps. Please do leave a vote for the solution. Thanks.

Renault megane scenic starts then cuts out after 10 seconds and keeps doing it

sounds like the MAP sensor but i'd have the OBD codes read, as this will pinpoint the sensor/switch and will save you time and money as there are a few things that could cause this , and searching blind and changing parts that may not need changing

New engine fitted on my grande renault scenic 2004 but it has trouble starting and cuts out when going round corners

Are you low on fuel? Try running around with a mostly full tank.

Usually if a motor cuts out when going around a corner it could be low on fuel, or the pump pickup lines are shot...This also could be an electrical issue with a wire that has gotten into trouble when the engine was swapped in.
