You need a new reverse gear. the rest of your transmission should be fine but it will need to be rebuilt because you probably have pieces of the reverse gear floating around in it. it will eventually ruin the transmission if you don't fix it soon.

SOURCE: Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: 1991 Acura Integra will not drive in reverse

I have the same problem in my 1991 Integra LS Sedan Automatic, when i put it in reverse it makes a grinding noise and won't engage...i've been told the "reverse fork" or something is probably bent which can be common from rocking a car from "D" to "R" to get unstuck from mud or snow and to fix this the tranny needs to be taken apart and fixed, or if any cheaper then replace the transmission. Could also do an auto to manual trans conversion, but those are the only options. Fixing the specific reverse problem would be cheaper than rebuilding the whole trans which a lot of ppl say is the solution

SOURCE: I have a 1999 Honda Accord that makes a loud sort

an automatic transmission for your car has clutch packs that help it go into gears they can go out and cause this exact problem purchase a new clutch pack or used if you like and replace it make sure its the reverse clutch pack they are located on the front of your transmission. heres a place you might try for a used one: Peach street auto 18003651341 or try the dealer! but be advised it may be the actual gears then you will need a new transmission or used one Peach street should be able to get one to you cheap! with rebuilding its usually cheaper or the same price for a used one.

Time to get the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing replaced.
And on a car that old the pin or ball which the fork pivots should be replaced also.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic, 30,000 miles, idling problems when in first or neutral. Idles randomly too fast, has been checked by mechanic and he could not find the problem, said there is no sticking. Slows...

sounds like airflow problem. try blow air and spray carburator cleaner to clear the passages from all ports leading to/coming out from the plenum. check EGR port for carbon buildup.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.
