Squeaking when turning steering wheel & now leaking of liquid

I have a volkswagen Passat 1999 model. it has been squeaking when I turn the steering wheel in any direction. I have opened up the bonnet and the noise seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car. This morning when I took the car from the garage there was black oily looking stuff on the floor where the passenger side wheel and bits are. The squeaking from the noise even had someone in the car park wait for me parking to tell me how loud it was. Any Ideas what it is, and how to sort it, before I take it to a garage and spend a fortune.

Hi, go under the car and look behind the tire ,there you going to see a black rubber boot ,if that boot is broken that is were the grease is coming out from,if so , the cv joint was runing dry and need to be replaced, is the part inside the boot, the boot need to be replaced too.this should cost betwen $100.00 to $200.00.( parts and labor.) Whenever I turn my steering wheel left to right it makes a noise

hallo
if power steering fluid is bubbly, means that its sucking air somewhere before(sucking side) (or on) power steering pump. that would explain the noise. Check (when cold) fluid level. if level is low, top up before starting the car. had a lot of cars that high preasure hose was leacking fluid on restricting valve. if so, fluid comes out on the end of protecting cover of the hose. (driver side on spark plugs and down the engine). replace hose with original. do not try to make it your self, becouse steering wheel will shake, sinse restracting valve is missing.
But if you press brake pedal, that has nothing to do with it.

My Isuzu trooper 1990 makes a squeaking sound at the front..recently i notice my power steering fluid leaks but in a small quantity. The squeaking noise make sound when i turn the wheel (with difficulty...

The power steering fluid level is low or the v-belt tension needs adjusting. Its not likely to be the aircon comp.Look at the v-belt.Adjust if needed and also see its not cracked or too shiny that would allow slipping. If in doubt, replace it.It will be the problem.Hope this helps

2004 Mazda tribute steering wheel squeaking

Well a steering flush would not necessarily be related to squeaking.

So, you need to locate exactly where the sound is coming from...
It really sounds like steering wheel turning and resistance causes the noise, is this constant, or only while actually turning the wheel?

Likely it would be semi constant, so that would focus you on the assist portion... Be careful around all moving parts, but you need to locate the source.

Try taking a section of heater hose, and listen through one end and move carefully around with the other end and see what you find. Likely something under the hood, with your note about window open...

Now, if the squeaking stops when the steering wheel stops turning, now steering components are suspect.... So, again, louder with window down makes me think outside and in front...I would stand in front of the car, have your handy assistant actuate the steering wheel, and you decide which side, right or left.... Suspect items that squeak only during steering wheel input include, amongst other things, the entire strut, all ball joint, including joints in the steering linkage.... Be sure to keep clear of moving parts, your handy assistant would not know they they are crushing you, while truning the wheel......

Steering wheel squeaking

they do that sometimes...Usually if you take some silicone spray and squirt it all around the area where you can hear the squeak,it will go away.

Vw passat 1.9 tdi 2001 squeaking noise from the front

Yes it could be the wheel bearing. After stopping, see if the wheel itself is hot to the touch (like burn your hand hot) if so, take it to the shop right away...unless you plan to change out the wheel bearings yourself.
