98 crown vic transmission slipping

The transmission is slipping on my 98 Crown Vic. Usually slips from 2nd into 3rd. Am at 95k original miles on it. Also, it will sometimes stall out while idling. Have replaced fuel filter. Also having an issue with neutral safety switch (need to place car in neutral in order to be able to start and shift into gear). Should I change my ****** fluid and filter, or are those stories about not changing high-mileage ****** fluid true?

So apparently it thought my abbreviations for "transmission" was vulgar. Heh. It's "change my transmission fluid" and "high-mileage transmission fluid".

Change the filter and fluid. This car if the transmission is original should have a torque converter drain. Drain the torque converter also,it gets almost all the fluid out of the transmission. Doing this the car will require almost 12 quarts of fluid. Worth a shot. I change mine at 25000 mile intervals.

SOURCE: 2007 crown vic 4.6 l idles high on startup

This sounds like a normal condition. What happens is the cold start emission reduction component monitor(software program in the computer) is running.
Cold Start Emission Reduction Component Monitor
The Cold Start Emission Reduction Component Monitor was introduced for the 2006 MY on vehicles that meet the
LEV-II emission standards. The monitor works by validating the operation of the components of the system
required to achieve the cold start emission reduction strategy, namely retarded spark timing and elevated idle
airflow.
When the CSER strategy is enabled, the idle air control system will request a higher idle rpm, elevating engine
airflow. While this CSER elevated airflow is requested, the low airflow test compares the measured idle airflow from
the MAF sensor to the commanded idle airflow from the idle air control strategy.

SOURCE: 1988 Ford Crown Vic Strange Idle

When you turn the key on does the check engine light come on? If not it may be burned out. It sounds like a MAP sensor or an O2 sensor is bad. I would suggest taking it to autozone as they do free diagnostic and seeing if a code comes up. If it is a sensor it should, if not it may be the idle sensor not reading right in the ECU. More than likely it is one of the sensors though.

I put a 2003 transmission out of a crown vic into a 1998 crown vic then wired the vss into the output shaft sensor little did i know that made my speedometer reading double how can i fix this will swaping...

I doubt it.
The computer for the 2003 would not follow all of the wiring patterns in the 98 harness not to mention the chip would be different.

Im towing my crown vic 3000 miles do i need to remove the drive shaft

Definitely have to remove the driveshaft on a rwd crown vic, or you have to leave the engine running and the car in neutral to keep the transmission lubricated

Transmission jerks on 1985 Crown Vic when cold. Doesn't want to shift, and transmission jerks violently when cold. Also, automatic transmission doesn't like to shift into 3rd gear, unless you exceed 45...

Unless you are low on fluid, I suspect you are in need of a rebuild. I have had similar problems before. Any shop will tell you to try a fluid and filter change. It has never brought one of mine back. I would suggest adding fluid to the top of the 'add fluid' area of the dipstick and no more. It can foam if it is to full, causing similar problems as being to low. I would add that if you have to replace the transmission - you need to consider that the car may not be worth the cost.
Good Luck.
