What do I do about a thudding noise that comes from the middle undercarriage?

When I turn the car on there's a thudding noise that comes from underneath the driver and passengers seat. It can't be heard standing outside of the car, but can if you're sitting inside. What do you think the problem could be?

May be your fuel pump. turn the key on without starting it. if you hear the noise before it starts, then thats the problem. if not, you may just have a loose exhaust pipe. good luck

SOURCE: 2001 A4 Quattro Back Seat Passenger Side Door

There is a child lock on it. Open the door and look on the edge of the door, where it mates to the body when the door closes. There's a lever there that is labeled as the child lock. It'll show her which way to switch the lever to allow the door to be opened from inside the car.

SOURCE: groaning noise on my peugeot 306 passenger door/ cl unlock n locking thing

open the door pull the rubber boot back that houses the wiring loom you will find that there are a number of wires broken if doable solder them back to gether and insulation tap them up, you should find this solves your problem.
your noise should and your windows should work if there are to many wires brocken you can get a new loom from the dealer

good luck

SOURCE: Front passenger door lock wont work, seat belt light on

Sounds like the plastic clip that connects the lock has broken however regardless of fault the inner door panel has to be removed to diagnose and repair. It could also be inner door lock assembly.

SOURCE: Thud Thud Thud noise from centre rear back

Your Caravan has no rear differential. The van is a front wheel drive, you may have a bad brake or your spare tire under the back of the van is lose. the other thing to look for in the back is the rear shocks could be broken or lose. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help get your van running 100% again soon.

Testimonial: "Yes, you are correct that front wheel drives have no rear differential. Man, I feel stupid! Thanks though as that eliminates that as a source. "

Sound from undercarriage when braking

See if the noise is also getting louder as you turn one direction or the other. The rubber rubbing sound doesn't ring bells but I suspect the bearings going out on one of your wheels. If it makes a noise when breaking but get louder or better as you turn one direction or the other I would bet bearings. I would look at that.

There is vibration problem when I drive over small bumps in the road. It is NOT a mettalic sound but more of a thud, thud thus sound. I changed the struts but it the sound is still there. We are not...

Gm has had issues with the steering colomn shafts and they get dry and cause this type of thud and vibration. Usually the mechanic just pumps the shaft full of grease to quite it down and that helps for a while. Have them check the sterring shaft for this condition as well as the ball joints. This condition is worse in trucks but it can be found in most GM cars as well over time.

Sounds like bad CV (constant velocity) joints in the front half shafts.

They make the most noise at a full wheel cut.
