I have a 2010 Civic and connected the battery terminals to jump a friend's car incorrectly. A couple sparks flew, but I haven't had any problems with my car. Should I check anything?

I was just curious if there is a protection against electrical surges such as this on my car. I'm also curious as to what I should check to make sure nothing is wrong with my car. I know fuses, but anything else?

Sounds like a short to ground. Get a wiring diagram and trace the circuit that keeps blowing the fuse...Look for burnt or bare wires...Good Luck!

SOURCE: won't start, no turn over, no lights, nothing

Check the manual for the location in the underhood fuse box of the 80A battery fuse. None of your car's OEM parts will work with this pulled or blown.

SOURCE: 2005 honda civic, suddenly no power to anything

Yes, there is a main fuse. It is located in the fuse box under the hood.

A faulty ground wire could also cause this.

Checking the continuity on each one separately (with the circuit deenergized) would be my first check.

Can you jump the distributor on 1988 honda civic

What do you mean by 'Jump the Distributor'?
If your jump starting the vehicle you use the battery terminals. Bypassing the distributor means it won't trigger the spark plugs in the correct order.

93 sidekick won't start

I would go with the short in the battery idea if the cables were connected correctly. You'll have to switch out the battery with another to find out.

Check charging system light came on in my dash. Looked in the manual and it states to wait to see if light goes out. If it doesn't to take it to the dealership. What would cause this?

Alternator going out. It's a 2012, so it'll be covered under warranty. I would absolutely take it to the dealership (with someone following me). Don't run it, until you're ready to take it there. Once the battery dies, it's done. There's nothing charging it back up, so there will be no spark to the spark plugs.

My second thought (and don't get mad at me here) is that this can also happen if the vehicle was jumped off incorrectly (negative to positive/ v. v.).

How to jump start my 2005 Pontiac Montana?

Using jumper cables :
1. Connect one red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of running car's battery and the other end red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the dead car's battery .
2. Connect one black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of running car's battery and the other end black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of the dead car's battery.
Basically... (+) to (+)...and... (-) to (-)
3. Crank up the car needing the jump.
4. Once car is jumped and running...remove clamps in reverse order.

Using battery pack: Connect in the same fashion as above.

Usually it'll just blow a fuse, did you check all the main fuses also? in the engine bay. Check those first. Also the cables are probably shot, your going to have to use a different set.

Tried to jump my 2003 galant and the cables would spark when trying to connect negative

Be ceratin you have jumper cables to correct terminals. Also, you may connect both jumper cables to the battery of the car your getting power from (be certain not to let other ends of cables touch) connect the positive lead of car being jumped to the battery's positive terminal, then connect the negative lead to the cars ground, not directly to the negative on the battery. Getting a spark when jumping is very common. You do not want to create the spark at the battery because the fumes from the battery acid can be explosive...... That can go very bad! When removing remove the grounded, to the jumped car, and then carefully remove the rest. Again be certain to not let the leads touch.

Please let me know if this had assited you,

Thanks,
Tom

Jumped dead battery; radio won't work

Sounds like they connected the cables backwards, there maybe a direct fuse on the back of the stereo that got burnt up.If there's not a fuse on the stereo than its probably damaged beyond repair.
