If you are doing this with no load on the engine in park or neutral then the engine computers automatic rev limiter is kicking in to prevent free wheel/no load damage to the engine components

SOURCE: 2005 Dodge Stratus ? Camshaft Position Sensor causing problems (I

I had the same problem with my '05 Stratus SXT 2.4 DOHC. I've replaced the cam pos sensor and it seems to be running fine right now. On the Dodge forums a lot of the guys say that you need to replace the crank pos sensor too. I've bought one of those just in case it comes back again. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: cam position sensor broke

ok easy fix. this is common on ALL ford w this style cam sensor,3.0 eats them for lunch. the sensor base has bushings like a real distributor, they get wore and fail. you can get new from ford, or reman at auto parts about 100 bucks. they come w the sensor installed but as with either, you need the allginment tool, looks like a little hockey puck, that only come from ford to set up or check engine light wont shut off. it will run without this but poorly. if you need more advice just post a comment to this and ill do my best to advise you

When cold the engine funs fine but when it warms up it starts to miss and surges the warmer the engine gets the worst it gets till it hardly runs, dies, surges and will not accelerate.

problem indicates electronic component failure due to heat from current flow
run the fault codes to determine the area or sensor that has failed
could be a cam/crank position sensor , ignition control module , coil, even the ECM

My 2010 jeep patriot with a 2.4 is surging when u accelerate from a stop.

Could be any one of a number of sensors for engine control . Mass air flow sensor , TPS - throttle position sensor, or APP- accerator pedal position sensor etc... Without testing an looking at scan tool data ,who could say for sure . How does the vehicle idle ? how does the vehicle run at cruise speeds ? Does the vehicle have electronic throttle control ? 2010 - i'm sure it probably does . Is the check engine light lit ? Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop.

What are cam position sensors for 2005 honda accord 3.0L

Camshaft Position Sensor Camshaft Position Sensor Operation:
00158_camshaft_position_sensor.jpgA magnetic or hall effect sensor. It sends a signal to the computer relaying information about shaft speed, position and acceleration or deceleration. This information determines when the fuel/air mixture needs to be ignited and how much mixture is needed for the engine.

Engine surges at 2300RPM

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.
