Failed Smog Test Close to CA-HC Limits

I took my Honda 92 Accord LX in for a smog test yesterday and ended up failing because of the Ignition Timing. I have since had that sorted out.

However of concern was the fact that my HC count was pretty close to max. Here are the results:

HC CO NO
Max Measured Max Measured Max Measured
116 115 0.74 0.60 791 568 15
91 78 0.62 0.52 730 311 25

Like I said earlier, the Ignition Timing was off but that has been sorted. My worry is that the mechanic said that with such high numbers that it could be pushed over with the timing being fixed.

The Catalytic converter passed the test.
I used 89 gas.

If anyone could help with suggestions to help pass it would be great.

You can try some over the counter solutions per say. Some of the mechanics in a bottle. They sell some products This will probably be the cheapest router. If this doesn't work then you need repairs.

Need 92 toyota paseo to pass CA smog test ! What causes too high HC in smog test????

High HC means moisture in the system. Try driving it longer then take it to the smog shop. Otherwise it could be hard like a head gasket or easy such as a PCV not functioning. Any ways you should always drive it about 20 miles before smog check, longer when the weather is cold.

1991 Honda Accord LX failed emission test on smog test. High CO and HC on 25mph

not enough info. Typically, CO and HC together can be the result of poor fuel control or misfire, or worn components such as O2 sensor or catalytic converter, but without more data, repair recommendations are likely to waste money and not achieve success.
