Auto trans will not ingage

I have a 2001 chevy silverado 4x4 dually with auto trans with tow range select button on gear shifter. I tried to engage it while going down a hill with a load on flat bed. It did not ingage. When I came to a stop and tried to start moving again the truck would not move. It only moves in reverse, when I put it in 1,2,3,D it does not work. It is as if the truck is in nuetral.

Chk tje vacuum hose on the modulator at the back of the trans. it should have vacuum. TTit has a rod that controls certain movements in the valve body. especialy downshifting. If there is no vacuum or the rod is sticking. We might have it . If there is any fluid in the mod vac hose, the modulatorhas a leaking diaphram. Good Luck,_ Ned_

My 2000 silverado z71 when switching to 2hi 4hi or 4lo the push button will flash and the front end will not ingage. and also have a abs light on

The 4x4 will not engage unless the ABS is in proper order the reason being. ABS cannot operate in a 4x4 engagement, and in return the 4x4 will not hi or low without the ABS concerns corrected the solution fix ABS and the 4x4 switch goes back to normal operations

2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 4-speed auto trans. problems

That does sound like a linkage adjustment problem.

If that does not work, I'd try a fluid change and filter. But your diagnostics with pulling on the gear shifter is a pretty good indication of a linkage problem.
