2001 honda crv temperature gauge fluctuates

The gauge in the instrument cluster . Having a qualified repair shop diagnose before replacing .

If you have a temperature gauge on your dash you can read the engine coolant temperature. After overnight the gauge should be low and during about a 15 minute warm up cycle should achieve about mid range on the dash gauge. It should stabilize at this point with minimal fluctuation through out normal driving.

If you do not have a temperature gauge use an OBDII scan tool where you can read out the engine temperature as you would read the gauge.

A passenger can observe the live readout on the scanner that are equipped with such features while you operate the car.

you could have bent valves but try fitting it on and start but if it does not then u ll have to take your cylinder head off (chances of bending the valves 90% and that is if u tried stating it or when it broke when the car was driving

purge system might b over charged &check &make sure compressor is running

You have to thank the Gauge that shuts down your engine when hot bec. it wont knock...you have to clean your radiator and see if the coolant inside it run through the radiator holes to the engine water jacket to make sure your engine will not over heat...For the fans, find the fan relay...it's under the hood in the fuse box...

I'd start by checking the head gasket. Engine misfiring when first started in the morning or extra dirty coolant might be an indication too.

But it sounds like a temperature problem.
Make sure there is enough coolant, (aqua).
The belts are tight.
The fan goes on.
The thermostat can be checked by feeling both radiator hoses.
They should both start cold.
One should slowly get warm as engine runs, but other stay cold.
When engine reaches full temperature, then the cold one instantly gets hot as thermostat opens.

This could be caused by a bad or sticking thermostat. this would not allow for the engine collant to circulate through the engine to cool it down. you could even be low or out of engine coolant. have you checked your coolant level?

Here's the thing. The ECU will shut down AC if the engine temperature is too hot. If the coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning (lying to the ECU) telling it that the temperature is hotter than it actually is, the computer will turn the AC OFF.
