I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. When I press on the breaks, my gas light comes and theft light comes on even with a full tank of gas. This causes my RPMs to drop.
Cluster
warning lights Whenever
this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating
that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of
lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected
a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM,
SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must
now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and
"scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the

Either you may be using a key that you had copied from the original or your chip went bad in your original key. Most of cars now a days have the key censor in the key so if it is the incorrect key it will not start your car or if it does not read that chip it will not start

Keep in mind that, when the security light has been iluminated while driving, there may be a trouble code stored in the computer. You need to take the car to the dealer or find an automotive locksmith
that has a T-Code, or Code Seeker scanner to attempt to pull out the
error code telling you what is wrong.

Hello, This problem is usually from a Bad battery. The car can run with less than a fully charged battery. The Antitheft system needs 13.2- 13.6 Volts to be considered fully charged even though the system is a 12 Volt system.
The Antitheft system is made to reduce the power to the starter if the Voltage is low. So the starter will only get 1/2 of the power it needs to turn the starter. Sometimes it is not enough power to even spin the starter. I do not like the idea, but all Ford products and some others work this way.
You may also be having an Ignition key problem. The key has a computer chip in it and is suppose to communicate with the electronic lockout feature of the Antitheft. Sometimes the key is bad (expensive and needs to be programmed) or the reader in the Ignition circuit is bad or lost its mind. Low voltage from a bad battery can scramble the reader. If you have 2 keys for your car, try the other one.
Autozone, Oreillys, and Advance autoparts will run tests on your car for free. If you need a battery, I believe they still install them free too! I hope my solution is very helpful in solving this problem. You may need to get a jumper start to get you on your way.
If you watch your battery cable connections, there are some portable jumper boxes you can buy for emergency starts. They do need to be charged to maintain them and last 18 months to 2 years. This is just an additional course of action for you, but may help until you get everything fixed.
