2004 chevy 2500 truck, blower motor stays on high, can not adjust speed or turn off. Blower stays on even when truck is shut off and key removed. Only way to shut off is to disconnect battery or remove fuse.

You will need a Blower motor resistor and maybe a blower motor resistor connector end. If you look under the dash on the passenger side(may need to remove smooth black cover, vents will be sticking out) you will see a connector going straight up into the blower motor resistor(7 wires/slightly in front of blower motor). Pull out the connector and check for melted terminals/wires. If no melted terminals just replace blower motor resistor with part # 89019088 per GM to revert to part before 04 in order to stop blower motor resistor relay from hanging. Let me know if i can help more.
My 2002 2500 HD will not shut off either, and with the key off and turning the blower switch to HI, the headlights comeon. Is this still the resistor replacement?

I had the same problem, 2004 Silverado. If it bothers you to have the blower running while you are working on replacing the resistor, disconnect the positive batter cable before starting. I bought a BWD blower resister (part # RU1064) from Action Auto for around $28. It will work, however the mounting brackets are not the same, so I used black tape to stablize the unit. I think you COULD buy the OEM one, probably a little more $. Step by step solution as I did it:
1. Use a 7mm ratchet to remove the 4 screws holding the large plastic cover under the dash. You will need a small extention for the middle screw. Remove the cover.
2. Locate the motor resistor to the right. Using a 5.5mm ratchet, remove the 2 screws holding the unit in place. Remove the 7 pin connector from the old unit. Follow the 2 strand wire up and remove the connector from the blower. A small screwdriver is helpful for removing the connectors.
3. Connect the new, 2 wire connector to the blower. Connect the 7 wire connector to the new resistor. If you are installing the unit I mentioned, you may want to secure it with a couple of strips of black electrical tape.
4. Test the new unit to make sure all connections are good, then re-place the cover.

I replaced the resistor and wires on connector aren't melted. Harness only has 3 wires, black, red and purple with grey stripe
