P0136 is an oxygen sensor check code for sensor 2 in bank 1. This can indicate a faulty sensor, but more commonly it indicates an issue with the exhaust. There may be a leak somewhere near the sensor causing an erroneous report to the engine computer for fuel to air ratio in the exhaust. This can be difficult to detect. At a garage, they will probably use a smoke machine to detect airflow around exhaust gaskets to spot a leak, barring that, they will replace the sensor. If the light still comes on after confirmation there are no leaks and the sensor has been replaced, it would indicate a problem in the wiring on the line between the sensor and the engine computer.

Hello,
The P0136 code is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the rear O2 sensor signal voltage is out of range for an extended period of time. bank 1 is the side of motor near the firewall that's where the #1 plug is. Replace the sensor and you'll be ok..

My engine light is on and i took it to get a code but the the reader could not connect so i could not get a code. What would keep it from reading?

Ck the fuse for the power point (cig lighter). This is also tied into something called the DLC (data link connector), which is what the scanner plugs into to pull the code.

2000 Ford Windstar is running too lean how do

The check engine light should be on--rent a scanner, read any code(s), and pursue to repair(s). The O2 sensor has direct control over fuel/air ratio. The other sensors in the air intake system modify these settings for peak performance under varying conditions.
