2001 ford taurus power draining new battery & new alternater won't work when cables are removed from battery

The aternator light in my 2001 Ford Taurus came on so I bought & installed new alternator & battery the alternator light went off so I drove the car for 2 days on the third day my new battery was drained. I then charged the battery and detached the cables for the battery and the car died. The car won't run on alternator alone.

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

SOURCE: my 2000 ford ranger and something draining battery

bad alternator possible or bad battery..even though its new that battery can be bad. I would take a volt meter and with the engine running check the volts of the battery..If the volts are 12 you need to replace alternator, if volts are 14 you need to check the battery. to check the battery hold the volt meter to the battery and have someone start the car..while the starter is cranking battery volts should not drop below 10volts.if they do your battery is bad.

SOURCE: My 1998 Ford Taurus has a battery that keeps dying

You obviously have a short. I think it may be your starter selinoid or starter relay. It could also be a mercury switch failure in your trunk or under the hood. They turn the lights on & off accordingly under the hoods. Have your starter checked out. Also it could be an ignition switch problem. Check the starter first. Good luck!

SOURCE: My car won't start, I

need more information, does it crank, and not start? Or no crank? If it cranks and does not start, the first suspect would be a crank sensor, they do that...if it does not crank, the battery has to be charged first to get it to crank-we can go on from there...

Battery light stays on after changing battery, alternater & plugin.

Is the system charging? You should have 14.2 14.6 volts at the battery. The charge light is controlled by the alternator internally. If the charging system is working, you could have a bad diode inside the alternator keeping the light on or a short/grounded circuit to the battery light

No power/ won't turn over.

check your battery AND the battery cables for extreme corrosion issues, also, how old is the battery? the alternator may not be charging the battery enough(should be producing about 14.2 or more volts as the alternator needs a couple of volts itself to operate properly). you might need to replace your alternator. good luck.

Alternater wire burnt out. Had to replace alternater and battery. Battery light still on and its drained. All fuses check out good . What else could it be?

Hello! Is the Alternator wire color that burnt Yellow/White?...This wire is powered by a 175 Amp Mega-Fuse....The other end of which is connected directly to the Positive terminal of the battery AND is the main battery supply to the Starter Motor...It would appear that there is Resistive contact to ground drawing (for example 100 Amps)...Thats a lot of current and is the cause the fault your SL is having...But not enough to blow the fuse...Disconnect the Positive battery cable and visually follow that lead to the starter motor to see if it is laying against the frame...You really need a multimeter set on the X10 ohm scale...One probe on the disconnected + battery cable and the other to bare metal of the chassis....Must read infinity as in no reading at all...
I believe you'll read resistance and my first choice is the starter motor connection because of its tight fit and close proximity to the frame...Let me know what you find...Guru...Saailer

Battery is being drained bye fuse marked jct/blk 40 amp fuse next too battery

It drains battery while car is off? If so, hook up a test light. Take negative cable off and put testlight between cable end and battery post-is light on? Then there is a drain. Go to fusebox on driver's side of dash and begin removing fuses till light goes off-that is the circuit with the drain. Identify the circuit and repair the problem.
That 40 amp fuse would be a main supply feed to several circuits, I think. Sometimes the problem is a trunk or glovebox light that won't go out as supposed to.
Good luck.

Power drain new battery, alternater (10 months ago)Replaced starter a week ago. New 40 and30 amp fuses, also relays and block breakers under hood. cables clean and good Wiring checked, no short found....

if the battery is being drained there is something causing it to happen, check that all the lights are off glove box, trunk, you may have to get someone to get in the trunk & close it to see if the light goes out, when it is dark lift the hood & move the wiring everywhere you can to see if there are any sparks that might indicate a bare wire touching something.....hope this helps......cheers.

2000 Ford Taurus Battery Drain - - After the car door is opened the wipers still work, power windows still work, power seats still work, radio still works, etc. Shouldn't the battery power disengage to...

using a test light with all doors closed everything in the car off; disconnect your black battery cable then: connect a test light between the battery post you just removed the cable from and the cable you removed; the light should light. this is your short (leak) then remove fuses until you find the fuse that causes the light to go off your problem is in that circuit.

The altenator has no power

Are all the cables clean & connected firmly? If so boast the vehicle & while running & booster disconnected put an amp. meter on the neg & pos of battery. If amp. meter reads over 13.2 or higher alternater O.K. if lower Change alternater.
