SOURCE: rear axle bearings need replaceing I hear grinding

Go to Jeep and buy a bearings, seals, and collar. The bearing is held in place on the axle by a keeper collar. This must be cut off to get the old bearing and seal off. Use a wizz wheel to cut it and then whack it with a chisle

To get the axle out. Remove rear diff cover, and wheel and start taking apart. It's not a terrible job, but if you aren't very mechanically inclined, take it to a shop. Make sure you use the correct fluid in the differential.

SOURCE: Rear Axle Seal Replacement

remove rear tires, then remove brake calipers and rotors, then remove the 4 nuts (each side) that hold the axle shafts to the axle tube (located around the axle tube behind the backing plate) then using a slide hammer pull the axle shafts out, next using a die grinder and an air hammer get he retainer collar and the bearing off (without damaging the axle shaft) then remove the seal and the outer race which will still be in the housing. next put it all back together, make sure the plate with the studs is still on then slide the seal, bearing, then retainer on (all new parts) and using a press push them all the way back on. then is simple reassembly.

SOURCE: REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING ONTO BRAKE SHOES NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX

Jack up vehicle and support on stands. Remove wheels. Remove differential cover . Locate and remove lock pin that holds cross shaft in. Slide cross shaft out. Push axle inward to release axle c clip. Remove axle and pry out old seal. Install new seal with proper tool.Add some lube to the seal lip to aid axle intallation. Revese removal procedure. This is for a "c" type axle.
Another type has 4 nuts attaching a retainer plate to the backing plate behind the axle flange. In this case the 4 nuts are removed and the axle will come out. This may require a little effort. I think that you have a "c" type axle in your vehicle. Hope this helps. Moe

SOURCE: right rear axle seal leaks

If only your axle seals are leaking then just remove one axel at a time. Take it to an automotive machine shop where they will press of the old seals bearings and reatainer and press on a new seal barring and reatainer all greased up and ready to slide back into place. No need to replace the whole axle for a leaky seal. Once this is done with both sides ( assuming both sides are leaking) refil the differential so the oil just starts to ooze out of the fill hole and replace the cap. Presto you are good to go. Also an important note. Make sure sure rear breaks are not soaked in 90W oil. This will impede your breaking ability and cause a dangerous situation. If the break pads are soaked they will most likely need to be replaced.

How do you replace rear axle seal

this will depend on the make of vehicle and the type of rear end. Some have a seal in the axle housing that runs on the bearing retainer and others have the seal on the outside of the bearing which means that the bearing has to be pressed of to replace the seal. Others have the seal in the hub and others have the seal running on the face of the axle. To get exact details you will have to specify the vehicle .

How to rear axle on chevy express van 1500

You want to know how to remove the axle correct ? There are clips inside the rear carrier that hole the axles from running out . You need to remove the the bolts on the back of the rear carrier but make sure that you can get the fill plug out first so you can put oil back in it . The clips come out like nothing you can do it with your fingers you need to replace the seals and look at the axle shaft and condution of the bearings replace as required also check to see if the vent is clear on the carrier the oil is heavy and expands alot this will blow the axle seals . The older it is the more likely it is that you need axle s or bearings but you will need new seals if you remove the axles

How to remove rear axel from ford crown victoria tne axel is loose and making noise leaking fluid i think it neds a new seal

do u mean the axle has "play" when u grab the tire and wiggle it up and down?? if it has play, then it propbably needs an AXLE SEAL AND AXLE BEARING.you will have to carefully inspect the axle itself where the bearing rides for any gouging or damage. THIS JOB requires a decent amount of mechanical skill. 1ST you need to remove the rear end COVER and drain out the gear oil into a drain pan.2ND remove the brake caliper and rotor . 3RD spin the" ring and pinion " around until u see a 5/16 bolt that passes thru from the pass. side to the drivers side. u have to remove this bolt. u will need to "hold "the gears from turning in order to break loose this bolt. 4TH remove this bolt and slide out the large metal ""PIN" that 'divides" the rear end in half. NOW CAREFULLY WITHOUT TURNING THE REAR END SPIDER GEARS,PUSH IN THE AXLE TOWARDS THE INSIDE SO U CAN REMOVE THE "C-CLIP" AT INNER END OF AXLE. now u can slide out axle and youll be able to replace seal and if needed axle bearing. let me know if u need more info.
