Front wheel bearing/drivers side

Could you tell me how hard it is to replace a front wheel bearing ? and is it possible to just re-pack the bearing rather than replace the whole part ?

can the carrier bearing be replaced without replacing the whole drive shaft assembly. If so, how is it done?

If the truck doesnt have a hub assembly then just pull the wheel off and pull the rotor off the bearing will be inside the rotor on each side. If it is a hub assembly then you have to buy a whole assembly and its made in it.

How do you repack front wheel bearings on a 98 Cherokee 4X4

OP<
Posted by J Sparacino on Aug 31, 2016
you double posted. why do that????
no, the hubs are integrated bearing hubs.
here read the parts pages,
see any tapered bearings there,
if not sold , pray tell , how can you pack the bearing not in hand.
not only that, there are like 1000000 books on how to pack front bearing, if they were removable and are not.
why not look first then post.? at car and the book, !
or read the FREE FSM, it says what ?, unbolt them
and replace the integrated hub assembly.
that is a fact. 300 times ive posted the free book, now.
and is still there, and the words still real ,still jeep words and all accurate. sigh.
below is rockautos list of after market hub assemblies.
do not get confused at those needle bearings, those are actually front axle shaft bearings, not hub wheel bearings. fact.
wheel bearing are ball or tapered rollers, to handle lateral huge loading.

I replaced driver side front wheel bearings, but starting to hear squeaks. Is this a lack of packing grease?

Dan, squeaking could be from improperly packed bearing or hub nut not tightened properly. Did you replace the races also.

Driver side wheel bearing problems.

Torquing might be the problem.
If they are tapered bearings, you should snug them down then back the nut off a quarter turn or so. I usually turn the nut back until the locking pin will align with the hole in the spindle.

I have a 1999 3 door saturn that vibrates and shakes at 60-65 mph also when brakeing you can feel it only on the front drivers side and steering wheel I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND IT STILL DOES IT

it is most likely a wheel bearing problem.. which could lead to serious problems. if i were you i would not take it on the highway, until you get this checked by a mechanic who knows what theyre doing, and replace the wheel bearing.

I have a 1993 GMC Safari that started making a strange noise from the front end I have taken it to 2 mechanics they both tell me that the problem is the wheel bearing. 1 says the bearing is in a sealed...

I just re-packed the front end bearings. Haynes covers the brakes real well, but not the bearings. Each front wheel has two bearings (one inside the wheel). So you have to remove the wheels, brakes, dust cap, grease seal and brake rotor to access the bearings. .
Expect to replace the grease seal because the rubber will be brittle or hard. Clean and inspect the bearings and races real well. If the bearings are squealing expect to replace some of them also.
Replacing the brakes so the pads stay in place is the trickiest part.

Hum from front drivers side wheel bearing changed

Two possible problems both related to that bearing change. 1. Was the bearing packed with grease before it was installed? If not, another new bearing is required properly packed with grease. They don't come packed when you by the bearing, only lubed.
2. Incorrect torque on wheel bearing bolt. If you do not have the specs. a good rule of thumb is with the nut just slightly tight and the wheel and tire installed but jacked up, spin the tire by hand and tighten the bolt to a point that the tire will not make 1 full revolution. JUST! ie. 355 degrees.

Good luck

Directions replace front wheel bearings on a 1985 nissan stanza?

996fb79.gif

NOTE: After the wheel bearings have been removed or replaced or the front axle has been reassembled be sure to adjust wheel bearing preload. Refer to the Adjustment service procedure below. On the 1989–92 240SX there is just one wheel bearing, pressed into the hub and no adjusting cap. Refer to the exploded views of the Front Axle Hub Assembly. Review the complete service procedure.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the front wheels and the brake caliper assemblies. NOTE: Brake hoses do not need to be disconnected from the brake caliper assemblies. Make sure the brake hoses are secure and do not let caliper assemblies hang unsupported from the vehicle.
  3. Work off center hub cap by using thin tool. If necessary tap around it with a soft hammer while removing.
  4. Pry off cotter pin and take out adjusting cap and wheel bearing lock nut.
  5. Remove wheel hub with disc brake rotor from spindle with bearings installed. Remove the outer bearing from the hub.
  6. Remove inner bearing and grease seal from hub using long brass drift pin or equivalent.
  7. If it is necessary to replace the bearing outer races, drive them out of the hub with a brass drift pin and mallet.
  8. Install the outer bearing race with a tool (KV401021S0 special tool number) until it seats in the hub flush. NOTE: Place a large glob of grease into the palm of one hand and push the bearing through it with a sliding motion. The grease must be forced through the side of the bearing and in between each roller. Continue until the grease begins to ooze out the other side through the gaps between the rollers. The bearing must be completely packed with grease.
  9. Pack each wheel bearing with high temperature wheel bearing grease. Pack hub and hub cap with the recommended wheel bearing grease up to shaded portions. Refer to the illustration.
  10. Install the inner bearing and grease seal in the proper position in the hub.
  11. Install the wheel hub with disc brake rotor to the spindle.
  12. Install the outer wheel bearing, lock washer, wheel bearing lock nut, adjusting cap, cotter pin (always use a new cotter pin and O-ring for installation after adjustment), spread cotter pin then install the O-ring and dust cap.
  13. Install the brake caliper assemblies and bleed brakes if necessary. Install the front wheels.
