Car drives great but just shuts off all of a sudden randomly. doesnt sputter just acts as if key was turned off. Cranks strong and all lights are on but wont start. However it will start if you move steering wheel some while cranking then it starts up. I turn the wheel some to the right and fires right up most the time.
The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.
EXACT same problem with my 1998/99 Honda Accord. Long story short: Electrical ignition switch; NOT the mechanical "tumbler" part. Crack professional mechanic said it was a very common problem with Honda. He & his brother are Toyota/Honda specialists. They diagnosed my problem right away, while three or four other general mechanics could not. Do the electrical ignition switch. It 'll save you time, money, unnecessary more expensive parts replacement, but most importantly, your LIFE! It cost me $191.00, including part & labor. Worth every cent; I dealt with this mystery for five months, as it got progressively worse. Total fix, and it has been just about a year. Good luck. If you're in CA, in the OC area, it is NAM Auto in Garden Grove, on Gg Blvd., at Magnolia.

SOURCE: Won't start @ times.
Sounds like an ignition module problem. Not to hard to change, they are inside the distributor.
SOURCE: Key wont turn
I had the same problem. Turns out the key was worn down. I still had an original "unused" key which I put into the ignition and had no problems with that key. Since this key worked, it confirmed that the other key was bad.
I then had a copy made and put the original key back into my "auto" file folder in case I needed another key in the future.
If you don't have a spare key, you should still have the metal key tag that came with the car. You can take that to a Honda dealership to have a key made from that.
SOURCE: Hi,I have a 91 honda
this was a problem with my 91 accord as well. it would irritate me to no end because one minute she would start and the next she wouldnt....i did notice that she would have a lot more trouble starting if it was a hot day or if i left her out in the sun for long periods. anyeays, the mechanics at the shop said this was a common problem with this model car due to a malfunctioning chip that does not tolerate heat very well..... luckily they were right and i was in and out of the shop in no time.
