Removing a timing belt on a 2003 xterra

You would have to sue in small claims court and you would have to prove that the seller knew that it was defective and did not disclose that at the time of sell. Most used cars are deemed by law to be where is as is and buyer beware.

I find it dubious that a vehicle 13 years old only has 61 thousand miles on it. They are 4 cylinder engines and the belt needs to be changed every 65 thousand.

If you can afford it yes do it at the same time.

it is a belt....recommended replacement interval is 105,000...but its rubber and it is8 yrs.old might be time to consider it.

It has a timing belt, not a chain. Easy enough to check your owners manual. From memory, belt is to be replaced at about 100,000 miles or 160,000 km give or take.

do it before the 1 in there breaks and smash's ur valves into the pistons.
there only good for 80,000km not miles .anyways if it's weather'd a few years then god only knows, that's extra wear. change it now before yours breaks.

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck

Hi there.What he is probably meaning is you have an interference motor to which means if the belt breaks it will bend the valves or if changing it and not getting timed right will also bend the valves. So if your doing it your self use extreme caution and make sure befor removal of the belt that the timing marks are aligned and the gears do not move until the belt is back on.Rotate motor over slow by hand with belt exposed 2 full revolutions to see if your timing marks a in fact dead on.. The mileage on the truck are close to time to replace.You dont want that thing breaking the belt while its running.You know the facts now.I hoped this helpes you and have a great day...

if your going to work on the car i would invest 10-20 dollars on a manual at a parts house , autozone , checker , a good manual for you might be a chiltons manual . anytime you have a problem , you will have the info . that job will be illustrated in there .your basic hand tools will be required.

Have you tried pulling it out real slow.. Also make sure car is stopped when putting it on.. Any fast forward movement locks the belt.. hope this helps
